Notes/Commercial Description:
Porter was first brewed in London, England in the early 1700’s. At the time two basic beers existed: a light and a dark. The dark was more expensive and drinkers got into the habit of mixing the two to stretch out the premium brew. A wise brewer began making a medium dark beer to save the barkeeps from having to mix at the taps. The beer was named after its biggest fans: the porters handling baggage at the local train stations. This brown porter is deep ruby in color and transluscent.

A: Dark brown with some red hues. Small tannish head of foam, little lacing.

S: Good amount of roasted malt, some chocolate like bitterness.

T: Roasted malt is lighter than I expected, some sweet notes, dark chocolate like bitterness.

M: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Could stand a bit more fizz to have a better mouthfeel.

O: A pretty average Porter; the 5% abv may make it easier drinking but I think it does so at the cost of taste.

Enjoyed on-tap @ Forage & Lounge in Driggs, ID for $4. Tapped from the Tap Handle w/ an 8 on it into a 12-14oz Hefe Glass.

Aroma- Started with a nice roasty aroma with light black ale characteristics. A slight burnt attribute comes around too. Grainy and malty but not much hop. A cleaner finish on the nose.

Appearance- Received with a 3 finger, frothy, long-lasting head. Has the darkest brown colored body but clear. Leaves thick lacing behind.

Flavor- Strong malts and a light burnt flavor comes around just like the aroma. A bit of sweetness, from the malt, keeps this one interesting. Has a light bitterness level.

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, SMOOTH, and goes down far too easy. Needs more depth and ingredient here!

Overall Impression- A VERY nice porter from Snake River. One thing I noted that wasn't the best was the body... Could have been more profound and had more depth (hops and bitterness) to it. Other than this, very robust from the aroma to the taste. I could definitely be spending more time in ID/WY to enjoy more Grand Teton and Snake River on the daily!

Dark ruby, medium creamy head that faded to almost nothing.

Limited aroma. It was served WAY too cold, but still had muted aroma after warming. Roasty notes predominate.

Mouth shows average carbonation, and little else. Limited to no alcohol presence detected.

Roasty, thin, astringent, and little to say for itself. Limited, thin hop character... basic bittering hops suspected (N. Brewer? Mt. Hood? Willamette?) A tiny hint of chocolate, but I think I was looking for something besides the harsh, thin roastiness.

Finishes roasty, and quickly.

A deeply blah offering.

Cask-conditioned at the brew pub in Jackson, WY. Dark chocolatey brown with a thick creamy tan head and a nitro tap looking cascading effect. Taste is roasted and refined with lots of dark malts and a nice oaky flavor in the middle. Touch of hops rounds out the nice flavors found in my imperial pint glass. Mouthfeel is creamy with low carbonation from the cask. Quite drinkable and a fine porter.
