Only the beers from the city of Köln, Germany are allowed to be called Kölsch. While most German beers are lagers, Kölsch is one of the few German ales. This beer is light in color and quenching, very mild in hop character. This is a signature beer of Chris Erickson. The recipe was written after returning from a trip overseas visiting our German brewer friend Guido Waldecker and is named in his honor. Guido's Kölnerbrau has an alcohol content of 4.9%.

A pint at the brewpub while on the way through the Grand Tetons.

This beer appears a clear, pale golden hue, with a thin cap of soapy white head, which leaves a few wisps of lace around the glass as things get moving along. It smells of soft, crisp grainy malt, and mild earthy hops. The taste is bready cracker malt, somewhat biscuity, mild fresh orchard fruit, and soft earthy, floral hops. The carbonation is average, the body medium weight and smooth. If finishes with a lengthening of the fruity biscuit nature.

Refreshing, drinkable, and seemingly very fitting for a view that includes a ski hill out the back door, bare of snow cover in July.

09/04/05- On tap via samplers at the Snake River Brewing Company in Jackson Hole, WY.

Presentation- Two 5oz samplers via the tap.

Appearance- Golden straw colored pour with a thick 3/4 inch head and genorous lace.

Smell- Very corny and grainy scented. A pleasant scent though.

Taste- Clean and crisp for sure. Lots of grain with a touch of malt. Quite refreshing.

Mouthfeel- A touch overcarbonated.

Drinkability- As said before this is a very refreshing brew. Not sure if they bottle it, but it would be a great pool beer.

It poured a clear straw gold with a small head of foam.

The smell had a good sweet malty nose balanced with a light hoppiness from some citrus.

The taste had light caramel sweetness, light citrus hops and finished with a dash of bread. Nicely balanced and very nice tasting.

It had a medium mouthfeel with fairly light carbonation.

Drinkability? This was way easy to drink due to the overall balance and not being afraid to bring out the flavours. I'd like to see more brews of this style around my neck of the woods!
