Sampled on-tap at Rendezvous Bistro in Jackson, WY a few nights ago. Following review based on notes taken at that time.
Served in a standard pint glass.
Appearance: Hazy, orange-yellow body with a fluffy, white top that retains well. Nice, web-like lacing.
Smell: Pineapple, pine resin, caramel, and earth. Simcoe hops play a huge role here, while the crystal malts soften things up with some additional sweetness.
Taste: Candied orange, pineapple, herbal pine, caramel, and earth. Hop-forward with an assertively bitter kick.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, moderately-carbonated, and resinous. Hop oils cling to the palate for a long-lasting, bitter aftertaste.
Overall: A solid west coast IPA for the hopheads out there, although the heavy-handed bitterness can become a bit draining after even one pint. Still, I've had quite a few of these the past few days (I'm vacationing in Jackson Hole).

One of the best beers I have had in a while....thank you Mr. Johnson (my neighbor) for bringing this beauty home from a recent vaca! The beer poured a very nice clear copper with thick white head that laced all the way down my glass like a Vicki secret model. The smell was a nice tangerine mixed with pine. The taste followed suite. The mouthfeel was a medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a top beer for me....I will buy it on sight fo shizz!!

how cool that this beer own a gold medal, it tastes like it may have in like, the year 2000, when big hops were still catching on, but it won in 2011, at least according to the can, and thats a big statement, at GABF, especially in this category. i dont think its that good, gold quality, but i love the use of what must have to be simcoe hops. huge broccoli vegetable properties collide with its classic bitterness and toughness of feel. not sure the other varietals in it, but i would wager that simcoe is at the heart of it. copper tint to it, and a nice head. foaming and persistent. i like the aroma a little less than the flavor, but its so robust and fresh from the can, must be packaged recently. sappy hop complexion on the finish, but its still real clean, an impressive feat. one of those beers thats real on point for style guidelines, i mean textbook, and is impressive for those reasons, but is also rockstar because of the fact that its just different enough to be memorable. this beer straddles that line brilliantly, and still finds a way to be refreshing at higher abv. not the most unique ipa on the market, but one that makes the others be a little better if they want to keep up. a lead dog of sorts, i dig that hard.
