Had on-tap at the Capitol City Brewing Company's K Street Location in Washington DC on 11/28/09.

A: Served in a large glass chalice. Beautiful radiant gold with effervescent carbonation and a thin, almost non-existent head.

S: Sweet malts and fruits covered with honey, rounded out with warming alcohol and spicy white peppercorns.

T: Sweet malts, honey, pepper, and bananas. Belgian yeasts hover in the background, while very strong phenols round out the finish. A stunning example of the style.

M: Nice medium body with active carbonation.

D: One of the better domestic Tripels that I've had. Capitol City Brewing managed to get a lot of things right with this beer.

Served on tap at the brewpub in a pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy honey color with very active carbonation. The glass came out with no head whatsoever, just a ring of foam at the edge of the glass. It attempted to put lace on the glass, nd probably would have had it started with more foam.

Smell: Light fruit and pepper smells, slight medicinal aroma. What smells are present are quite nice, but muted.

Taste: Nicely balanced pepper, sweet pale malt, and medicinal tastes. Mild bitterness, herbaceousness, and banana esters on the finish. A textbook triple flavor.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and very clean, great carbonation. Lighter shade of medium bodied.

Drinkability: Not bad, not bad at all. In fact, quite good. A solid attempt at a triple that gets all the main ideas right, but lacks some of the finer points. I would have it again, to be sure.
