Pours dark brown, barely translucent, with a dark cherry tint when held to light. Head is under an inch but holds well. Aroma is of medium dark malts, slightly roasted and a little sweet smelling, with some nuts and some chocolate. Flavor is of heavily roasted malt, milk, and coffee, and develops a little bitterness. Mouthfeel is skim milk-like, like most correct porters. Lacing is pretty wicked and abundant. Finish is kinda harsh, burns a little going down.

Pretty much your standard porter, but I'm not going to complain. Pours a nice dark brown with a small head. It wasn't as thick as your average porter but had some strong chocolate notes. I'm a sucker for porters so this was perfectly serviceable, but if you're not a particular fan of the dark stuff it's probably not worth specially seeking out.

A black beer. A tan head, good lacing and curtains.
Burned bread, dried black fruits and coffee in the smell.
Tasting of burned crust, a touch of ashes, sausages, old coffee.
Little carbonation, dry with a good body.
A good solid porter. Really nice.

Ontap downtown and Arlington into a pint glass. Pours a deep ruby with a thin, but creamy tan head that has good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of coffee grinds, semisweet chocolate, roasted malt. Taste has a bit of a meaty and smoky body with chocolate-covered cherries. Bitter hops in the finish. Medium-bodied. A bit astringent but the smokiness and chocolate really bring this porter alive.

Reviewed from notes taken while visiting Washington DC two weeks ago...sitting at the Capitol City Brewing Company bar on New York Ave NW...
Pint glass poured nearly to the top!
Dark brown, very thin tan head with some lacing...
Roasted grains, hint of smoke...
Charred bread, bitter, lightly roasted grains w/subtle malt sweetness...
Middle-grade. Not bad, but rather mundane; no real depth of complexity...

Notes from Thursday night's happy hour:
Came off the tap a very dark brown with a small tan head. Smells of roasted nuts and smokiness. Tastes like dark chocolate nibs and the char on a burnt marshmallow. Medium-full body with low carbonation that lets you really feel and enjoy its heft. A tasty end to my night's session.
