Look forward to this beer whenever I am in the D.C. area. Classic, refreshing, and clean. There are more interesting examples in the style, but this one always hits the spot.

On tap at the brewpub.
Clear golden body. Slightly more tart, lemony and hoppy than average for style.

It has a very yellow color to it, also very bubbly. Has a light lemony aroma, mildly beery. The lightest of all the beers at Capitol City in Shirlington. The taste was pretty good, as it had a clean, vegetal, a definite flavor from the yeast, peanutty. Pretty good all around.

11/12...Served on tap in DC. Pours clear gold, little foam. Light grain straw nose. Clean crisp taste with very light body. Modest flavor. Somewhat nondescript Kolsch.

Clear straw colored, a small white head, little lacing and small curtains.

Smelling of fruits, ripe pears, grass.

Sweet white bread, nuts, apples and some butter.

Little carbonation, refreshing, small body, a dry finish.

A standard american kolsch. Clean.

This arrived with a wispy white head. It was golden, pale yellow in color and absolutely crystal clear. It had a semi-sweet nose, but it was very hoppy in the mouth. It was a really dry beer, both in terms of mouthfeel and on the finish, especially the finish. It was entirely refreshing on a summer's day and that would be the time of year for me to really enjoy this style.

Light yellow with a fine white head that leaves some lace. Slightly sweet, grainy aroma, with a subtle hop spice. The flavor is a bit grainy, maybe due to the 10% wheat, and has a light sweetness before finishing with a touch of bitterness and german hop flavor. I'm hard on Kölsch because I know that it can have great, subtle malt flavor, and this one misses by a bit; just a bit thin and grainy, though it does have some hop bite.

Served on tap in a standard pint.

Appearance is still, negligible head, no lacing. Straw yellow, very slight haze.

Aroma is grainy, citrusy.

Flavor is sour, strong. Mouthfeel about right for the style.

Overall, no obvious defects, but not a treat or a thirstquencher, either.

Notes from Thursday night's happy hour:

Clear yellow gold with a small white head. Smells of grainy malts and light, grassy hops. Tastes like a light American macrolager, as if its purpose were to appeal to folks who prefer macrobrews but just happen to find themselves in a brewpub. I can understand that, and am just glad that the rest of Cap-City's lineup shoots well above average. Body is a bit undercarbonated but overall this is a drinkable and not unpleasant beer.

Poured into regular pint glass.

A - Poured slightly hazy yellow straw color with medium head that quickly dissipated leaving average lacing around the glass.

S - Thin scent of grass and grains with hops but not much there.

T - Very light and crisp flavor of grains, hops and citrus with a slightly bitter finish.

M - Light bodied with high carbonation.

O - Very simple and refreshing brew with low ABV. I would recommend it.
