A: Cloudy orange/red with a tan/white head. 1.5 fingers, great retention, perfect lacing.
S: Nice hoppy and grainy smell, very light. Not too sweet.
T: Very grainy flavor, lots of hops as well. Pretty bitter with very little sweetness. Not very complex. Toasted malt for sure. Nice aftertaste. Nice vanilla flavor going out.
M: Pretty overcarbonated, a bit astringent and dry. Clean. Medium body.
D: Goes down easily, but the carbonation burns a bit.

On tap at the brewpub on 4/5/09. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a deep hazy amber with a solid finger of smooth beige colored head. Thin creamy layer of retention that just absolutely coats the sides of the glass with lace. The aroma is malty sweet with strong notes of citrus and bread coming out, as well as a nice touch of floral and spicy hops.
The taste is similar but even a little bit more robust with a silky mix of toasted malts, caramel, and citrus. That same pleasant spiciness really stands out here, especially in the finish, where it blends with some moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied with an easygoing creaminess to the carbonation that really helps increase the drinkibility of this.
Nice. This took me a little by surprise, being one of the more full flavored Irish Reds that I've had in a while. The soft body on this really cranked up the quaffable nature of this as well. I could have easily downed a few of these.
