From a 750 ml bottle (Batch 2, brewed 6/13/12, bottled 11/18/13) into a wine glass.

A-A gentle pour (this thing is highly carbonated) produces one and one-half fingers of pink-tinted head. The pinkish-white foam sits around for more than two minutes before dropping to a cap. The beer is pinkish-golden in color and lighter in color than you might expect for a kriek.

S-The aroma is intense. There is a strong, musty barnyard funkiness, as well as a high level of lactic tartness. I smell lots of green apple in here, as well as some bread dough, but not as much cherry as you would expect for a kriek. The aroma is pleasing, but not for the faint of heart.

T-The taste is similar to the smell with big barnyard funk, bread dough, and a bit of oak, as well as sweet tart sourness of green apple and sour cherry. Once again, the cherry flavors are pretty subdued compared to many kriek style beers.

M-The body is medium in heft for the style with a slightly creamy, softer level of carbonation.

O-This is a well-done sour beer, but the cherries could be more prominent. Usually I would applaud the restrained approach, but maybe I've been converted by other AC beers like Framboise Noir, or something like Atrial, with their massive clean acidity and high levels of fruit flavor? I dunno, but this bottle just seemed a little short on cherry flavor.

Cheers to Bilco for sharing this

Review from notes, 6/7/14

Appearance: Pours a color that reminds me of nectarines, a cloudy, red-orange with some gold, some brown, and some pink around the edges - small, off-white head, leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Sour and funky - cherry flesh and tart cherry skins - sourness is mostly lactic, with some damp funk - very tart and very funky overall - lots of oak and a general musty barrel aroma - some acidity and some vinegar as well, funkiness increases and diversifies as it warms

Taste: Sour cherry flesh and funk - very moist, damp, and musty tasting with a big dose of Lacto, Pedio, and Brett - nice level of tartness, reminiscent of Marciano cherries - chewy, damp, sour cherries and some damp oak - lingering tartness, minor puckering - lightly bready malts, kind of more like a Flanders Red than a traditional Kriek

Mouthfeel: Medium body, smooth, very tart with an almost puckering finish, nice lingering effects

Overall: Moist, tart cherry funk

The cherry flavor here is big, but at times it is overshadowed by the straight-up funk. I feel like the cherries could have been emphasized more, but giving the bacteria center stage also works. I'm glad I had a chance to try this.

On tap at FoBaB 2011.

A - Beautiful medium pink with a nice one fingered pastel pink head. Pretty light froth with little lacing.

S - Nice tart cherry, some biscuit, vanilla and lemon. A hint of hay

T - Very nice balanced sweet vanilla and tart cherry. There's a nice breadiness that works well.

M - perfect carbonation, not too puckering and quite light. No alcohol present at all.

O - Had multiple pours of this throughout the night and this was easily one of the best sours at FoBaB this year and undoubtedly the biggest surprise of the night. Fantastic beer.

Barnyard and sheeps butt on the nose. Musty and stanky as hell.

Strawberry red color. With quickly dissipating head.

Don't let the nose distract you from the taste. Tart but balanced berry notes on the tongue.

If you're a sour lover, this is top notch. AC Golden is making some ridiculous small batch stuff and this is no different. This is a super hard beer to get a hold of and I'm glad I got one.

Bottle courtesy of forgetfu. Pours a red-caramel color with a short off-white head. Nose has cherries and a bit of earth. Mild bread. A bit similar to a Flanders base in terms of the malt. Light sourness through the finish. Flavor has a good cherry skin flavor. Surprisingly fairly good. Body is medium. Average carbonation.

750ml C&C bottle; batch 2.

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: Translucent light red bodied beer with thick white cap that drops to no head is short fashion.

Smell: very acidic and mild to moderate cherry aromas. No funk presence at all.

Taste: Just like the nose. Moderate levels of acidity almost high acidity; 8/10. Really nice pucker factor. Cherry and lemon notes. Little bit of oak barrel. No funk presence in the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. A bit better than semi dry finish.

Overall: This is a fairly simple sour beer, but I have enjoyed every AC Golden sour that I have drank. The whole point of this beer is nice sour pucker and fruit presence.
