The hemp branding is clever, though it gives you no true hints as to the flavor of the beer, but in hindsight I guess I can see it.
A - This beer pours a very nice red. It almost glows like a Christmas ornament. Little to no head on it, which is fine, and a little carbonation action.
S - A very "herby" aromatic smell to the beer. A very rich smooth smell, but still subtle.
T - A little complexity in the taste of this one. A nice balance that leans toward flavoring and a touch of bitter. Very smooth and a little thick which is an interesting mix that I always enjoy. However, after it goes down I feel like a bit too much of the bitter is left behind. The flavor is still there which is good, but it seems like the bitter gets stuck to your tongue. Also, this beer really find it's calling when it's out of the bottle for a bit and starts to warm up. The bitterness is strong when it's too cold, but a few minutes later it really opens up.
M - Because of the low carbonation it sits wonderfully in the mouth. Keeping it on the tongue is great as it gives time for all the spices to find their way to the taste buds.
D - I do enjoy this beer, but I don't see it as a repeat winner as the night goes on. The sharpness it leaves sort of builds up and I think after a few I would need to move on to something else just to give my taste buds a break.
To conclude: An enjoyable beer that will surprise you if you expect anything related to the name. A smooth crisp drink with a bit of an after-bite. Good in moderation.
