375ml bottle from 4/2014 poured into a Lawson's snifter 5/31/2014.
A- Dark black body, one finger mocha head with good retention. Looks slick and resinous, a bit oily even. Not much lacing.
S- As it was served chilled, the nose took time to develop into cocoa, graham crackers, sweet rum, molasses, milk chocolate, roasted malt. Really a very nice nose once it warms up.
F- Roast malt, sweet rum, graham crackers, milk chocolate. Less of the cocoa and dark chocolate than in the nose, on the sweet side but still balanced nicely by the roast. Interestingly, this started out with some fusel alcohol flavours, but as it warmed up, that disappeared. I suspect that I am confusing the fusel with a component of the rum barrel.
M- Medium bodied, slick but soft and creamy. Slight earthy chocolate finish that is a bit dry. Quite drinkable for 11%; a bit of booziness but not a lot initially; and even that seems to go away as it warms up.
O- Plenty of rum barrel, base stout is still solid. I enjoyed the non-barrel aged version more, but this was still a very nice treat as nothing is over the top here.
