From the most recent release. A thank you to Chris for opening this and for alerting us..You are a gentleman and a learned man.
Almost pitch black, with a little beige head, looking good so far.
Maple is big, some chocolate and some roast, no hops to speak of. On the sweet side, but really it's just malt-heavy, the maple suffocating out whatever hops once were there. Reminded me actually of a classier Dark Lord with maple. Well put together, and a very fine drink.

Sampled at the 2010 Stout tasting in a Orval Chalice.

750ml corked & caged bottle.

Pours black, black with a nice thick very dark brown head, Nose is sharp and rich.

Taste is very rich and sharp, a bit astringent but very hoppy given the age and style. Nice and smooth really easy drinking for being so strong.

Thanks to youbrewidrink for the bottle!

Pours a dark, luscious black with an enticing milky way colored, two-fingered head.

The smell is off the chain! Swiss Miss hot chocolate, cocoa nibs, melted caramel and sugary maple. I'm also picking up some roast. Lots of sweet going on.

The taste is pretty straightforward; mirroring the smell well. It seems to be a pretty decent clone of Founders CBS but with a twinge of smoke... just slightly, like bacon. This batch seems to have more maple in it than I previously believed because at room temperature the maple really shines through!

Extremely smooth for a 10% beer. Amazing drinkability! Creamy, silky mouthfeel. Just a terrific, unique stout I feel fortunate enough to have tried. Lawson's and Newhart... see Vermont brings something to the table after all!

On tap at three penny taproom.

Long time want, randomly walk into the three penny while visiting VT.... Lo and behold!

Looks dark and roasty, appetizing brown head subsides to good lacing.

Smells like roast chocolate with a hint of maple...tastes like a magical maple chocolate bar with hints of alcohol. Surprising considering it is a 10%!

This is awesome. Why can't I buy this by the case?!

Big thanks to Kyle for this one. 750ml (red) foiled and capped bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter.

Pours a 1.5 finger thick, dark mocha head with moderate retention. Beer is pitch black, rich and thick. Lacing is web-like with great stick. Very good.

Nose is roast, cocoa, espresso, and dark chocolate. Moderately aromatic. Decent.

Opens chocolate and roasted malt tartness. Tanic with hints of leather, smoke and honey at the back. Chocolate, fudge, cocoa and espresso at the end. More roasted malt tartness in the finish. Aftertaste of molasses and roast. Good complexity. I expected a touch more sweetness but this is just fine.

Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Thick and chewy in the mouth and goes down smooth and viscous. Messy finish with a slightly lingering aftertaste. Appropriate. Good balance.

A very good beer all the way around. Looks gorgeous, nose is robust and inviting and the flavor has good balance and complexity. The feel is just right too. Worth trying as an above-average representation of the style.

This is a Big
Imperial Stout

A: Black - very.

S: If you don't like Maple Syrup, don't even bother.

T: Very Nice - Have had this brew since inception, and it still impresses me how balanced, and drinkable it is for such a full body, roasty brew!

Thanks to Stowehop for hooking me up with this, and a few other Lawsons goodies!

A: Pitch plack with a nice mocha colored head that is moderately thick and retains very well. it leaves almost wine like legs when swirled, exactly what i am looking for in a stout

S: Tons of roasted malt character, bitter coffee and chocolate notes are the most prominent. There is some maple, but not as much as I was hoping for

T: Chocolately sweetness and bitter roastiness with just a touch of maple syrup to go along with it. I like my stouts roasty but for this one I wanted more maple

M: Slightly chalky, but the body is substantial enough to provide some creaminess. Also, no heat present on this at all which is surprising

D: I would definitely like to try this one again, and given the abv, it is way above average

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with some transparency. Lots of mocha head. Great retention. Really leggy on the swirl.

Smell - Roasty as hell. Some sweetness. A fair bit of maple. Chocolate. Chalky, almost.

Taste - Still extremely roasty. Stronger maple sweetness. Pretty sweet, in fact. Chalky, burnt roasted malt. Chocolate and coffee. Bitter.

Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation. Sweet and bitter at the same time.

Overall - Really strong maple, but this stout needs it. Ridiculously roasty.
