Hopzilla is a monster of an IPA that will make you pucker up! Loaded with high-alpha U.S. grown hops, this brawny dry hopped ale will terrorize your taste buds, yet has enough malt backbone to balance a fierce bitterness.

1 pint can served in a glass

A: Hazy orange with a medium head that immediately disappeared and leaving almost no lacing

S : strong hops and alcohol

T : a lot. Aggressive Heavy hop character; Strong alcohol; malty backbone

M : Dense and full bodied, malt, alcohol, and sour grapes linger

D : Just too much going on for my pallet, would have 1 again, but not ordering a 2nd

To be fair, (to be fair) . . . Not sure how long this was on the shelf before I as gifted one. Generally I feel the cans hold up better than bottles.

Pours a hazy gold. Big foam. Dank hop aroma. Super delicious! Big bitter hop body. Sweet malt finish. Well balanced between hops and malt. Not too heavy or syrupy. One of the best doubles I've had.

5/2/22 Another exceptional brew from Lawson’s. I wouldn’t call this a “monster”, it’s much too refined for that. Perfectly constructed.

Canned on 1/24 and enjoyed on 3/17 (happy St Patrick’s day). Hazy amber color, fluffy wet head. Resinous hops on the nose, pine, fresh cut grass. Similar resinous flavors up front that give way to an interesting sweetness from the malts. Dry and oily mouthfeel. Hides the 8.7% ABV well. Was expecting it to be more bitter from start to finish but still a tasty beer nonetheless.

Pours a deep amber with a substantial head that dissipates slowly. Lovely lacing as the beer is imbibed.

Big pine notes on the nose. A little indistinguishable fruit in the background. Slight caramel note from the malt.

Big citrus burst with some graininess on the sip. This gives way to great pithy bitterness. Lots of pine throughout. Great stuff.

Full bodied with ample carbonation. Great mouthfeel.

I really enjoyed this as I have all the beers from Lawson’s over the years.

A bit underwhelmed to be honest. Instead of Hopzilla, I’m thinking Hopunny. You know, “Hop-Bunny”? I mean, I try to not always believe in concrete ways; Raul wants a life of abstraction to be. But right here, in Hopzilla, we basically have a 4 that is written and dried into pavement.

Live it up and live well, my children.

16 oz canned on 01/26/22

Pours a hazy golden amber orange color with a dense creamy white foam head. Moderate aromas of toasty bready malt, earthy piney hops, some grapefruity citrus and pineappley tropical fruit. Tastes like fresh tropical citrusy fruits, pineapple, passionfruit, tropical mango, grapefruit pith, orange, lemon peel, toasty bready caramely malt, with earthy herbal grassy resinous pine notes. Feels medium-full bodied, creamy and slick with smooth moderate low carbonation. Overall a really great double IPA.

Slightly cloudy medium Amber color with an inch of white foam. Mango, lemon, pine needles, an oily herbal scent, and Ritz crackers on the nose. The taste is grapefruit, sweet rolls, orange zest, resinous chewy pine, and a super awesome hoppy bite to finish. The feel is medium and creamy, drying on the finish. This is a superior old skool IPA. I love the way those hops make me smack my lips. A nice one!

Great example of a classic DIPA. Smells a bit sweet on top of piney, citrus aroma. Big, hoppy, classic balance of hops and malts. Bitterness and citrus hops clashing. But in a good way. Lawson’s beers are all perfectly constructed. This one is no exception. The great thing about these beers is you know you’re getting consistent quality.

From a 16oz can dated 1/24/22 into a tulip.

Pours a very murky, dark brownish orange with about one finger of off-white head. Great retention and lacing.

Smell isn't over-powering but picking up some floral notes, citrus and resiny pine. Herbal notes show up on warming.

Taste follows and is more powerful than the nose. Citrus up front then strong bitterness on the back end of the sip. Piney, resiny goodness.

Sticky full-bodied mouthfeel. Strong bitter slightly oily, buttery aftertaste. Medium carbonation.

Great beer. Great big beer. IT's a sipper for sure, but really enjoyable.
