Thanks to GoGriz (Cody) for this one. Bottle # 324/350. Poured from a corked and caged bottle into a Darkness snifter. Shared with schen9303. Reviewed from notes.
A: Soft pour yields a .5 finger light coffee colored head with little retention. Beer is a thick, opaque black. Lacing is stringy and sticks close to the head with moderate retention. Average.
S: Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, sweet honey barbecue, and some cocoa powder. Surprisingly mute and a bit disappointingly subtle although very appropriate and appetizing.
T: Opens sweet molasses, creamy hop bitterness, roasted malt, chocolate, and some bourbon barrel characteristics. Sweet raisins and dark fruit in the middle with more chocolate and maple syrup towards the end. Finish is maple syrup and aftertaste is an added dose of cocoa powder, roasted malt, and dark chocolate bitterness. Great balance and the maple adds a nice sweetness.
M: Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Slightly prickly in the mouth but oily and filmy going down and as it warms. Finishes with a slight bit of heat and aftertaste lingers. Nice, this one really needs to get up to room temperature though.
O: Not as good as the maple liquor barrel version which has a much more prominent nose and barrel characteristics. I'm not sure the bourbon barrel aging adds a desireable layer to this beer. Still though, a solid imperial stout with trying.

Black liquid, brown to the edge, thin 1/6" head, tan in color, tight, small bubbles. Aroma was of maple and bourbon, hard to beat that down.
Taste was chewy and amazing, hid the alcohol immensely well, sure its pretty sweet, but it works, its smooth as can be, a little bit of barrel oak and vanilla drop effortless and seamlessly. Chocolate plenty, bourbon, minimal. Carbonation soft and dialed in.
I really like Lawson's barrel stouts way more than their hoppy stuff.
