Light fizzy head hazy grapefruit color that almost looks like a beautiful sunrise.

Nose light fruity rye, light grapefruit and hint floral citrus, hint grainy malts, hint of floral grassy hops, lots of nice aromas that are lighter but definitely there.

Taste light session like malts, light fruit spicy rye, hint grapefruit citrus like, light reddish malt, light yeast and grainy malts, finish is dry light grainy and light floral hops hint bitterness.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied good carb.

Overall quite nice. Decent malt profile, nice rye addition, and great hops. The hops and rye really seem to play off each other well and make this a great tasting beer, and with the sessionability, I can drink a lot of this. Wish I could get a lot more of it. (758 characters)

A - Cloudy medium orange with a golden glow along the bottom. A small layer of bright white head.

S - Mix of fresh grapefruit and peach hop aroma, spice and Belgian yeast. Great nose for 4.5%.

T - Belgian yeast and some cloves up front that give way to some peach and earthy hop flavours. The finish has a nice spicy rye flavour and a lingering bitterness.

M - Light to medium body with a slight chew. Light carbonation.

O - Refreshing with a nice hop bitterness. A really nice session beer, as advertised. (514 characters)

Picked up a bottle of this at The Warren Store in Warren, VT. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a nice hazy golden colour with a good one finger white head that fades to leave nice side lacing and a good, thick blanket.

S - Light banana, slightly spicy rye, and some gentle belgian esters.

T - Some light rye spiceyness along with more banana and light yeast notes. Not quite as funky as I like in a saison. Tastes more belgian than anything.

M - Mouthfeel isnt bad, slightly thinner but definitely drinkable and refreshing.

O - Overall, this was an alright saison. Much better offerings from Lawson's. This drinks too much like a Belgian beer than a saison with some light hop finish. (695 characters)

Pours a hazy golden yellow. A lot of white head off the pour that dissipates quickly. Smells spicy from the rye. Sme nice saison funk underneath. Tastes similar. Surprisingly flavorful for 4.5 percent. Well carbonated and enjoyable. (269 characters)

Pours a dark straw yellow with a small whitish head. Smell is distinctively a bready saison yeast and spicy rye. The taste is very spicy - yeast, rye and hops. Not as dry as that sounds, but very flavorful for the low ABV. Good carbonation, lighter body. This is really flavorful and interesting, but at times a bit too spicy. Enjoyable and worth trying. (354 characters)

22 oz bottle shared by starrdogg a few weeks ago.

Pours golden yellow, clear and bright, with a retentive white head and nice lacing throughout. Aroma is spicy and bready with a strong citrus hop finish. Flavor was surprisingly sweet and juicy at first (reminded me a little of Double Sunshine's hops), with yeast and rye spice, and light grass. Medium light body with high carbonation. Thoroughly enjoyed this. (412 characters)

Thanks to starrdogg for opening this bottle at last night's mini-tasting. Served in a Hill Farmstead long-stem tulip.

Poured a nice clear golden color with a good white head and some spotty lacing on the way down.

The nose brought forth a fairly-heavy spice and rye presence along with a nice floral character. Light citrus peel character as well. All of this carried over into the flavor, which contained more of the citrus and floral components.

Light body with crisp carbonation. Moderate bitterness and a dry finish.

Good brew, certainly worth a try. (559 characters)

A firkin at BCTC 2011.

A: Like sunshine, captured by Zeus and placed into my glass. A beautiful golden yellow color, supported by the purest, whitest head around. The saison is hazy, as expected coming from the cask.

S: The nose is delicious, the cask lending a wickedly citrusy citra aroma to the saison. The hoppiness is sweet but firm, a dominant aroma atop the lighter biscuit malts and Belgian yeast.

T: The citra is domineering, a sharply sweet hoppiness. Orange and light pepper are bright and sweet. The saison base, along with the rye, are afterthoughts, lost behind the powerful hops. The biscuity flavors are soft and chewy. I just can't stop raving about that hoppiness though, a stunningly intense flavor that is as bright as sunshine.

M: The mouthfeel is so smooth, so sweet, so hoppy that it defies logic. Easily the best beer of the day at BCTC 2011. (873 characters)

I think this is a great session beer and Belgian ale. The yeast spices are subtle like a true Belgian and there are mellow layers of barley and rye backed by balanced floral citrus hops. The aroma has a mix of spicy rye bread and vanilla coriander. The bread carries over into the taste with a slight cocoa note and crust.

For the strength, this is a complex beer that's also quite drinkable. It's a shame this is a small-batch brew. (501 characters)

From 08/26/10 notes. Had at a local DC tasting.

a - Pours a murky golden color with one inch of white head.

s - Smells of bananas, spices, rye, wheat, and bready malts.

t - Tastes of spices and rye straight up. Also some bready malts, wheat, grain, and light fruit.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

d - A decent saison. It wasn't very funky and seemed more just like a Belgian style beer to me, but none the less pretty good. Would try again. (456 characters)

22oz bottle poured into a wine glass. Batch 138, Bottle #14

Pours a nice deep dark amber with some hints of orange. Very small white head with some light white lacing. Nose is wheaty with soe light Rye - which I love. A tinge of belgian yeast finishes it off.

Taste is dry and a bit fruity, there's a nice bite from the Rye that's very nice. It finishes really quick and clean, it's almost a bit flat though, not in carbonation (which is done nicely) but in flavor. It's like the body should linger a little longer. As I'm thinking it more I'm starting to like it more though. Still fairly hoppy for a Saison, like all of Seans beers! Overall it's pretty solid! (663 characters)

22oz brown glass pry-top with gold foil. Released before the BCTC event, but just cracked it tonight with sleepnbballrlife.

Pours a beautiful creamy brown with some thin tan head. Nose is of dark wheat malt and lots of fruit-basket Belgian-yeast. Palate is crisp and somewhat simple with some citrus and dark wheat. Moderately long finish and clean.

A decent brew, a decidedly "sessionable" Belgian style, and a the rye is a nice experiment and a welcomed addition to the malt bill. It delivers what it promises! (514 characters)

Had on tap at the VT Cheesemakers Festival. Warm amber color; sufficient but not bountiful head. Smells earthy, spicy & malty simultaneously. Taste is floral of hops and slightly tannic from the rye, but plenty of malt to balance it out. Finish is somewhat dry and very refreshing. Very enjoyable. (297 characters)

22 oz gold foil topped bomber into a tulip glass. Batch # 138. Bottle # 20.

Pours a slightly hazy burnt orange color, topped with a near finger of bright-white head. Swirling gets a nice little ¼ finger frothy cap going on this, which leaves a cascade of creamy foam down the sides of the glass. The aroma is sticky, tangy, and a little sharp in the nose with wheat, rye, spice, fruit, and earth all mixing wonderfully in the nose. A bit of a leafy hop backbone is present here as well. Just a pleasant and flavorful fullness to this, despite this being a little more sweet and less dry than I would have expected.

The taste is tangy and crisp on the palate, with peppery spice and soft fruity esters working their way into the mix. The rye bread taste really drives the profile though and is felt well into the finish where it lingers with some earthy bitterness and gritty parching dryness. The mouthfeel bodied, with a crisp and prickly carbonation to it the whole way through the swallow. A mellow smoothness glides underneath this though, keeping it moving nicely and that 4.5% ABV just feels right on this. It's got some presence in the mouth but isn't coming off as overly beefy on the palate or anything.

This is overall maybe a little sweeter and tangier than what you would find in a traditional Saison but that mostly comes from the use of the rye, which otherwise adds some delicious flavor and dryness of it's own to this. I especially like the easy feel here though, smooth yet crisp and the lower ABV really helps this earn its name. This was a pleasant summer quaff, full of flavor, and going down very easy. Pours hazy amber brown with not much head. Smell is weak but I get a bit of yeast and rye. It tastes lighter than it looks. This is meant to be a refreshing summer beer and it goes down smooth. Pretty balanced between the rye, malt, and yeast. A bit of hops in the middle and end, but this is not a hop-forward beer. The lack of hops lets the rye overtake the aftertaste, which is subtle and dry. This is an easy drinking summer beer, but probably my least favorite from Lawson's. Of course, even an average beer by Lawson's standards is pretty freakin' good! (559 characters)
