This is a very local Vermont beer, from one of best brewers in the state. It actually scored very high, from the six of us who judged it. Compared to Heady Topper, also a local beer, I rate Double Sunshine as a better beer. My feel is that it should be and would be in the top five if more people could get a chance to taste it. Hard to find and in very limited volume. But find it you must.

Review #850

22 oz bottle served in a Lawson's snifter. Bottle a few days before imbibing. Huge thanks to kevanb for the share.

A: Pours a yellowish orange color with a slight chilled haze to it. One finger of white foam forms on the pour and recedes to a thin cap. Soapy lace is left down the glass.

S: Tons of citrus fruit on the nose. Hefty amounts of grapefruit with a mild tangerine/orange citrus sweetness. Minimal biscuit malt in the background as this is all about the hops.

T: The taste is even better and much balanced. A ton of grapefruit with fruity and earthy tone to it. Pineapple and mango tropical fruits with a sweet biscuit malt body to give it a little tangent amongst the heavy fruit brightness. Light bitterness rounds it out.

M: Light bodied with a medium carbonation level. This drinks like a single IPA/Pale ale with the flavor of a big DIPA. Huge drinkability.

O: Dangerously drinkable with a great representation of grapefruit. Probably the best I've ever tasted or smelt in a beer. Absolutely delicious and incredibly balanced. Hopefully I'll get to try this again sometime.

Thanks to ilovestouts for this!
Bottle into 7venth Sun tulip

Double Sunshine pours a cloudy hazy light orange. It has a big three finger puffy white head that left soapy lacing all over the glass.

It smells amazingly of tropical fruits. Big and juicy aromas of pineapple, orange, and grapefruit. The grapefruit does hint at the impending bitterness but does not detract or dominate. Some bready and sweet maltiness comes through too making this even more complex.

Grapefruit is at the front of the tongue but the juicy citrus is not far behind. All aspects are in perfect balance. A little more bitter pine like at the back of the tongue but after all this is a DIPA, right?

Medium bodied and great creamy, sticky feel. A perfect level of carbonation on this only makes the feel that much better. This beer just goes down remarkably easy, especially for a DIPA.

Near perfection for a DIPA in my book at least for what I have tried so far. I could drink this every single day and love it each and every time. I would love to have regular access to this especially during the summer.

A- cloudy and orange in color with a foamy white head
S- Orange, lemon zest, citrus hops
T- orange, grapefruit, bitter and a resinous hop finish that lingers on the tongue
M- medium body, crisp, and medium-high carbonation
O- A wonderful double IPA from one of my favorite states. DS is juicy and full of fruit flavor and bitterness. My only critique on this brew is the presence of alcohol, not strong but you can taste it. Also, this was not my first time trying this beer, but it sure wont be my last. Thanks to DrewGingras for this one!
