Poured from 357mL bottle somewhat aggressively into a snifter.

Appearance: Pitch black with light carbonation. Very small amount of head that quickly fades.

Smell: Chocolate and roasty with a nice balance of sweet maple. You can catch a hint of booze, but it is very subtle.

Taste: Strong presence of chocolate and roasty malts up front. A combination of maple and caramel comes through on the finish. This is a great take on an imperial stout.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and very smooth. I was expecting something heavier, pleasantly surprised. Light carbonation. Very satisfying.

Overall: This beer was great. It was well balanced and the maple syrup and maple liquor barrel aging really complimented the imperial stout, well. It was smooth and despite being higher gravity, there was no hot alcohol burn or negative impact on the mouthfeel. I waited outside at 20 degrees for an hour an a half for this beer so I had very high expectations. This beer did not disappoint. I would absolutely get it again.

Poured from a 12.7oz bottle

A: Dark brown, thin dark tan head

S: Chocolate, biscuit. Nothing too complex or intense but certainly not bad

T: Chocolate, vanilla, oats, just a touch of maple in the background and a hint of oak. I wouldn't have guessed that this is a maple stout or a barrel aged stout, but the taste is delicious nonetheless.

M: Medium body, appropriately low carb.

O: Really enjoyably stout, tasted more like a non BA stout to me but one that is very well done.

The beer pours jet black with a thin, dark, tightly packed tan head that settles into a halo around the glass perimeter with minimal lacing (light residual oil). The nose is maple sugar forward, with a slight roastiness, and hint of biting ethanol and oak. Maple also predominates the beer's flavor profile, a slightly nutty brown sugar sweetness that has minimal chocolate or tannic bitterness, and a lingering maple flavor. The mouthfeel has little booze compared to the nose, a silky malt/maple caramel sweetness that doesn't become syrupy/chewy despite minimally carbonation, only a hint of wood, some vanilla, slightly bitter-sweet finish. This beer meets expectations in having a noticeable maple presence on top of a full bodied barrel-aged stout.

Reviewed from notes.

A- Pours a thick black with a half-finger of dark tan head. It leaves a minimal amount of lacing.

S- The aroma is a bit sweet and metallic when cold. A good bit of dark roasted malt and dark chocolate. Some oak tannins and a touch of tartness. A hint of maple on the end.

T- The flavor is a lot of the same. A whole lot of oak, the same metallic notes from the nose, and a touch of tartness. The chocolate and maple are there, but a bit muted. It's still quite tasty.

M- The mouth feel is medium, with limited carbonation, and a dry/vinous finish.

O- This is a very solid imperial stout, but it is a bit disappointing considering what I was expecting from Lawson's.
