Bought this bottle at the Winooski Beverage Warehouse in Vermont, came recommended from one of the guys who works there. Having tried a few other of the Lawson varieties I was eager to try the 2011 National IPA Champion, I wasn't disappointed.

A- A slightly cloudy honey/amber color

S- Sweet ripe flavor that is quite inviting

T- A strong bodied IPA whose flavor is kind of what you might expect from "a trifecta of hop varieties" as advertised on the bottle. Crisp and refreshing finish with a slightly bitter follow-up as any good IPA should end

M- Begs another sip

This is another win for the man behind Lawson's, check it out if you can get your hands on a bottle.

Poured into a tulip glass a dull copper color with a large blooming white that left a few broken rings of lace as it settled slowly.Big citric hops really jump out ya in the nose, pithy grapefruit and lemon notes over top of sweet alcohol and caramel.Fresh sharp grapefruit hops on the palate with underlying resiny notes, just great hop complexity mixed with some sweet induced alcohol.Wow there is a real citric punch to this beer, almost DIPAish except not overly sweet,a great beer.

22oz bomber poured int a Duvel tulip.

Pours a hazy amber/orange color with a small white to light yellow head, very bubbly. Nose is amazing, fresh and fruity, mango, grapefruit, pine and sweet fruit juice.

Taste is much less fruity than the nose, but it's still top notch, for a regular IPA it sure packs a hop punch, very bitter and palate tingling. There's a really nice creamy and sticky mouthfeel with a bit of a slightly acidic bite on the finish. A really nice addition to Lawson's hoppy line up!

Cloudy yellow with a tinge of orange, and a significant foamy head. Hoppy aroma. The taste is a bit vegetable. A good malty backbone and good drinkability and fits well into the style of IPA rather than DIPA.Above average mouthfeel.John’s bottle.Very nice but a little disappointed.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Slightly hazy orange bottle. Wispy surface after a chunky head dissipates. Thin collar.

Smell - Less citrusy than I thought. Grapefruit and orange hops, but musty resiny hops balance. Hardly any malt presence.

Taste - Follows the nose. Even more of the pine hops than the nose. Strong grainy malt here that I didn't get from the nose. Finishes with just a hint of sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Dry and very bitter. Well carbonated and fairly light.

Overall - I expected more from Lawson's. Every other IPA has been fantastic from them, but this is merely good. First world problems?

22 oz gold foil topped bomber into a tulip glass. Rare Batch #202/Bottle #1.

Pours a crystal clear copper, topped with several fingers of rich bright-white head. This retains with a frothy ½ finger, slathering the sides of the glass with thick swathes of foamy lacing. The aroma is floral and bright, with an herbal edge and light notes of pine and spice. A perfect blend of bitter grapefruit, zesty rind, bready grains, and sweet tropical fruit form the base here in the nose. I must reiterate just how awesome the balance of this is.

The hops are fresh and bright in the taste, with a bitter blast of grapefruit and zesty tart lemon, which is tempered a bit on the sides by hints of tropical fruit. Underlying supportive malts give this just enough balancing sweetness, while still allowing those hops to shine with a crisp and very dry bite that leaves notes of pine, pithy fruit, and light spice lingering in the finish. Much like the nose, there is just an outstanding balance here. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a slick easy crispness that that perfectly complements the hop profile here. There are no alcohol flavors present either, with only a gentle warmth that adds to the intensity of the flavors.

Wow, another home run of an IPA from Sean Lawson here, with that triple threat of Citra, Simcoe, and Centennial hops all combining to give this a fantastic blend of hop characters which where thankfully well balanced out into a fresh, crisp, and hugely drinkable version of what an American IPA should be. This bottle had a few weeks on it when I had it and was still drinking pretty super! This is another one to seek out.
