First had: bottle from Waitsfield

Might have been a little bit past its prime when I finally got to this one, but it was still tasty. A careful pour into a Lawson's 12oz. flared pils glass yielded a mostly clear, coppery liquid, with a moderately-sized but long-lasting cap of foamy white head; streaky lacing. Lots of piney hops in the nose, as would be expected, background scents of sugary malts. Taste was piney and herbal--not too intense...probably mellowed out a little bit during the month or so it was in the fridge--sugary malts, lightly toasted bread. Medium body, lower carbonation, slick mouthfeel, quite nice overall.

Big thanks to damienblack for this bottle, received among others after a virtual comedy of errors, since I was really jonesing for this brew. I love spruce! 22 oz. green-foiled bottle split with my wife.

Preview if an almost lacquered orange with carbonation jetting alongside the edges of the glass, evidently trying to escape the event horizon of the glass. Nose isn't as strong as I (for no apparent reason) expected, pine woods, citrus, both rather standoffish.

Spruce Tip IPA reminds me of taking a pine bath four weeks ago in the BWCA. Spruce & pine mingle right up front, much more prominent here than in the nose. Citrus & bitterness rush in behind. Bitterness lingers like a fine wine in the throat, with just enough sweet caramel malt for one to notice. Herbal. Raw pine needle & ex-bitterness reign on the finish. I'm feeling the need to swallow the rest of my glass all at once.

This is a brew that needs to warm for several minutes; severely underwhelming out of the beer fridge, it stepped up into a very good brew bordering on excellent.

had at the bruery clusterfork event
taster pour into bruery glass from some nice PA folks
it is golden light color and
has an interesting hop smell and fresh pine/grass aromas
taste is similar very piney hops didnt get much of the citrus as it is overpowered by
pine reminds me of the smell you get when in the forest after rain and it is clear day you get those pine aromas which were put in a bottle
mouthfeel was decent nothing special
overall this is a nice offering but would not seek it out
