Alright, I have to review this beer now while it is here in front of me again. The Memorial Day Weekend had the hop heads of the family sharing brewskis in a taste festival, and this beer was unanimously greeted with respect and revulsion!

First of all we had already been through about 6 different IPAs, and you might discount this review on that, but again, here I have the beer in front of me in a snifter, and two of us a trying to gag it down. We haven't had any IPA yet today, and yet it is still difficult to drink.

I give it a 3 overall because it really does something special. The looks on the face produced by this bitter brew are highly entertaining.

Looks and mouth feel are excellent. Slightly hazy and peach orange, the one looks very good. The pour yields a lovely inch foam that dissipates into nothingness over the long minutes it takes to get through it, leaving alcoholic legs, like dried maple syrup on the snifter walls.

Look out! As soon as this beer bashes onto your tongue you are into a world of hurt!

Bitter up front, and bitter to the end, I find descriptors like wet cigarette butts, sucking the end of an old rope, rank wet sneakers, and old baseball glove come easily to mind, as the palette struggles to come to grips with what is the gnarliest beer we've had all year, perhaps in our !ives!

Good lord, did they filter this through an old dish rag? What mischief inspires a brew that curls the tongue with herculean taste cramps. I find the tiniest of sips blossom into huge flavor bomb blasts layered with the assorted subtleties of the finest piney IPAs however draped in a jungle camouflage of dank midew molds and fermented mangoes, and rotten mung beans in reconstituted shiitake mushroom, with twisted old rancid terry cloth tennis wrist band juice thrown in for a salty insult. We almost gag.

Yet over the time it takes to drink oh so slowly, it warms to ambient temperature, and opens up, transforming from an ugly duckling to a majestic swan. I'm pretty certain this beer teaches respct and tolerance, and by the time you are down to the last flat and warm inch of beer in the bottom of the glass you at rewarded with something unusually complex and deliciously palatable, after all the grueling suffering, not quite stomach churning, but tongue twisting.

A slow drinker. Approach with caution. Not for the uninitiated.

Can from Proof Bottle Shop. I had this beer directly from the can while a t the pool earlier today. Aroma was sweeter than Jai Alai in the way of more mango and pineapple. Aroma was also a touch of pine and earthy grassiness. Taste was sweet tropical fruits, only slightly bitter hops, and lightly roasted malt. Well carbonated and good body to this beer. I should have bought the full 6 pack.

32 oz. growler filled at Vista bev., South Salem, NY

Pours near clear, slightly ligher then almond amber. Nice fine head, leaves a delicate collar, tiny bubble film and super fine sheets of lacing. Nice lookin'...

Muted nose with some grainy hops

Decent butt really nothing special kinda AIPA.

More grainy/resiny hops in the forefront. Hoppy with nearly enough malt to reflect some balance. Not overy impressed. The look of this one was the highlight, and thats not a good sign.

Clear apricot colored with a thick and dimpled rocky off-white head that lingers long. Inviting aroma of bright tangerine and pine. Taste fairly matches the nose, very fresh citrus flavor, tangerine and pine, some ruby grapefruit and orange rind. Some subtle malt flavors ride beneath, but the hops are front and center on this one. Firm bitterness. Full and round mouthfeel. Very tasty beer.

Ahtanum batch
A- straw, light gold, transparent, thin white head that disappears quickly
S- tropical fruits, floral hops
T- grapefruit, pine, floral hops, little malt flavor, passion fruit
M- thin and light body with medium carbonation. Resinous hop aftertaste.
O- seems more like a pale with the very light body but it's very tasty and has wonderful aroma
