Appearance: Pours dark dark dark brown or black with a thin, deep tan head a couple of millimeters thick that fads to almost nothing after a couple of minutes. Looks almost thick when poured.

Smell: The cedar tang is what I notice first but there is a lot going on here. Also picking up a lot of chocolate and smoky coffee scents.

Taste: Very interesting mix of tastes. Similar to the smell, the first thing I notice is that hint of cedar but immediately some of the traditional stout flavors with some sweet dark chocolate and coffee. After taking a sip the chocolate flavors remain. Sweet beer for the most part, but a heavy sweet (not a light sweet).

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy, thick, and with very little carbonation.

Overall: I really liked this beer overall although it certainly was heavy. It was very creamy rather than dry, and the sweetness was not overpowering. The cedar gave it something extra and all worked well, definitely a unique blend of flavors.

#3 1/24/14

A thick dark brown with a likewise dark brown head, this beer looks like many imperial stouts out there. It does show some give at the edges. The head's retention is good, though it doesn't exceed half a finger's height. Structure is strong, though, and lacing displays it with sturdy patches.
This is a big and robust beer, dry but with lots of richness to it. There's a ton of roast giving way to smoked woods in the middle that remain into the finish. Nut comes through underneath bigger flavors including chocolate in the front and a hint of tobacco leaf from front to end. It finishes woody and dry with notes of ash or cedar. I can see lovers of big American versions not liking this as much as what they're used to with the dryness, but the integration and use of the dryness in flavor and feel is quite masterful.
Speaking of, yes, the body's dry, but it's also rich and smooth with a light crispness in a good, firm body with the strength to carry through from the beginning of the first sip to the end of the last.

A- pours thick black with a thick brown head
S- tobacco, smoke, roasted malt, pepper
T- smoked malt, tobacco, wood and oak, dark chocolate, charred meat, campfire
M- thick creamy mouthfeel, no heat from the 11% bill, low to medium carbonation
O- I love smoked beers especially porters/stouts and this one stands next to the best of them.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky and glass staining black. Nice khaki head. Wispy surface and a thick collar.

Smell - Lots of cedar. Sweet smelling. Chocolate and a hint of smoke.

Taste - More of a smoke flavor. Roasted malts. Coffee. A bucket of cedar. Sweet.

Mouthfeel - Hefty body. Viscous. A hint of booze.

Overall - Tasty stout, as always from CCB. No idea what they mean by English.
