Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a 7venth Sun goblet.

A: Very dark brown and almost opaque. Minimal visible carbonation, but still manages a thin tan head that fades quickly.

S: Rich malts, with waves of chocolate, vanilla, and candied pecans. Some booziness, and it all does add up to pecan pie.

T: Toasted maltiness up front, with a milder chocolate or cacao character. Some vanilla, a hit of alcohol heat (though this fades a bit from prominence as it warms), and the hint of some oak in the vanilla. Pecans don't show up until the exhale - certainly less prominent than the nose. Some residual malt sugars, ethanol sweetness and pecans in the hang.

M: Full-bodied, with low carbonation sensation and moderate alcohol presence.

O: Pretty tasty and easy to drink. I think the pecans mixed with the sweetness to make it give off the oak flavors. This did improve as it warmed up for sure, but it never tasted quite as good as it smelled.

Bottle poured into snifter, dark pour w little carbonation. Hint of pecans and malts are evident to the nose. Sweetness on the palate with hint of pecan on palate. Too sweet for me but I'll give them their due!

"A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or pacean, which means "a nut so hard that it has to be cracked with a stone". The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth." Brewed in the style of a German Doppelbock with vanilla beans and pecans added. Collaborative release between Terrapin and Cigar City, available in 750ml. bottles.

Poured from a 750ml. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp, frothy caramel tan head over a densely hazy deep brown body. Retention is below average and lacing is light and spotty. 3

(Smell) Aromas of bready German malts forward, with notes of vanilla bean, brown sugar, caramel body and molasses mild grain. Delicate nuttiness in the aroma, potency is moderate 3.5

(Taste) Rich bready malt body with a definite pecan nuttiness, vanilla bean and heavily toasted graham cracker crusts. Not too far off from a pecan pie, with a slightly grainy finish, notably a higher-gravity beer. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly sticky, softly chewy, mildly dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium+ overall. Alcohol presence is moderate, and there are no off characters. 3.5

(Overall) I'm a bit late getting around to this one, but think that it holds up nicely, even with a more revealed grainy body. Pretty nice blend of pecan pie flavors, wouldn't mind trying this one again in the future. 3.5

Have been sitting on this for a couple of years and finally got around to cracking it with some friends. Was a little worried when we opened it because it was a slight gusher, but not too bad. Smell was a bit of the pecans. Taste was sweet and nutty. Slight vanilla? Really nice. Decent carbonation, but not too bad. Good overall mouthfeel. Glad this turned out well.

I have had this one for awhile. Just getting around to cracking it open

L - Cherry and brown, with no clarity, no head and no lacing

S - Whoaaa....straight up sugar! Brown sugar, dried fruit, molasses and nuts

T - Sweet as hell! Brown sugar, molasses, licorice, with a nice finish of pecans. Aftertaste totally of pecan pie. Tasty

F - Light bodied and heavily carbonated.

O - Definitely a dessert sipper beer. Very tasty in moderation. Its sweet...warning! But they nail the pecan pie. No false advertising here!
