Acquired in a trade with GatorLCA. Didn't know this beer even existed. I'll give it a shot. Poured into a tulip. Was not prepared for the aggressive head I got on the pour. Bit of a spill over. Once that settled, nice dark brown with a thick tan/beige head. Aroma is a bit toasty. Smells a little sweet too, with caramel and toffee. Maybe some dark fruit in the smell too. The taste is strong, more dark fruits than in the smell, kind of a nutty taste too. Somewhat sweet on the end. It's a sipper for me, heavy on the flavor, but not as sweet as some barleywines. There is also a little bitter aftertaste. I'm not a huge fan of barley wines but there is enough here to keep me interested. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is creamy and somewhat thick, nice for the style. Pretty interesting and nice beer

This Barley Wine-style ale pours a very dark, lightly carbonated brown. Nice head and lacing. Nose is really underwhelming. As it warms, a little more comes out, but it's pretty mild really. Some hints of roasted malt and hops are detectable, and perhaps a bit of toffee as well. The taste is also a bit underwhelming. It's malty, with some bitter hops in the background and some alcohol heat. It lacks the caramel-like sweetness I would typically expect for the style. Really not a lot going on with this one at all. Mouth feel is nice though. Medium bodied and creamy. Ultimately, it's a let down for me. Not a bad beer, by any means, just not very memorable.

Extra from a trade with Chad. Apparently, not much of this was canned. Thanks, man! Never heard of this beer, so this is an unbiased review. Once in a blue moon, right?
A- Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Great Lakes 25th Anniversary tulip. Might have been the smoothest, most silent pour I've ever done. The beer didn't make a sound... But we're talking about appearance here. Really deep, rich mahogany color. Light-brown head has some pretty good retention. Fades after a couple minutes, leaving a film on top. Some legs are left on the glass here and there.
S- The nose is really understated, but very smooth. Caramel and toffee. Some raisins, too, methinks. Slight presence from the hops, but hardly any at all. Really nice, just wish it was a little more bold.
T- One ups the nose by just a little bit. Initially dominated by caramel and toffee flavors with a hint of chocolate. Then, it's all washed down with just the right amount of bitterness from the hops. Actually, based on the aroma, I wasn't expecting as much hop flavor as I got adds a nice element to the beer. Also, I wouldn't have guessed this was as high as 11.79%. Pretty well masked alcohol.
M- Definitely a heavier mouthfeel. Not super viscous by any means, but certainly last medium. Carbonation is medium. Nice warming feeling from the alcohol. Butteriness lingers on the palette. Nice.
O- Glad for the chance to have tried this beer. A nice take on the style. I think it's even more fun to review a beer when you've never heard of it. Cheers!
