Cigar City Hopped on the High Seas

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Cigar City snifter. Served chilled... Perhaps a little too chilled. Had to let this warm a bit to really open up.

A) Hazy golden amber brew. Really not much head. Perhaps a half finger of suds, that dissipated quickly.

S) Plenty bitter initially, but after letting this rest, a pleasant tropical fruit aroma revealed itself. I got pineapple chunks, peach syrup, and light citrus.

T) Near the nose... Piney hop bitterness, lemon zest, citrus rind, balanced with a fruit cocktail sweetness. Wouldn't have guessed the ABV is 7%.

M) Lighter medium body. Lighter carbonation. It's crisp and refreshing. Bitter with a slightly dry finish.

O) A very enjoyable IPA. Glad to have given this a try. Wouldn't mind having more of this in the fridge.

12 oz can with something printed on the bottom that I cant make out. Oh Well freshness/canning date info would be nice with a beer like this....

Pours hazed medium amber, moderate off white head, that leaves nice looking fine sheeting all the way to the top of the glass.

Tropical fruit and hop resin on the noise.

Pleasingly hopped, hop character is mostly tropical fruit with some resinous qualities tossed in.

Fresh tasting, went nicely with some cheddar cheese. Worth a try.

Poured into fluted snifter; mostly clear yellow-orange with a slick white head that fades after a bit, leaving fine spotty rings of lacing and a nice chunky cap of foam.
Smells interesting; tropical fruit is present, with some interesting sweetness with something else behind it...coconut? Also some bitter pine resin.
Taste is piney hops over clear soft malt, light tropical fruit and citrus with some pure sweetness hiding behind it. Strong bitterness is present in the form of citrus rind and pine resin, leaving a lingering sticky bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is smooth and light-bodied, dry.
Overall, a nice bitter dry-hopped IPA with nice tropical fruit and pine flavors.

From the can. Born on 1/30/2014. Purchased at the brewery on 2/6/14.

I'm very impressed with the HOTHS series of IPA's. Pours a clean golden hue into a pint glass with only a modest bit of lacing and foam. Beautiful aroma of mango, citrus and bread malt. Very mild hops flavor without much bittering. Lots of citrus and tropical essence on the tongue with just enough malt middle to balance it out. Soft, creamy mouthfeel is reminiscent of a very fine cream ale with low carbonation by IPA standards. Completely clean aftertaste with no lingering flavors would lend well to food and repeated glasses. Overall, very drinkable and a welcome beer on a warm Carribean day.

12 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear golden orange body. Nice white head. Some lacing inside the glass and some islands of foam.

Smell - Tropical fruit hops, but a lot of herbal and grassy notes. Something sweet to it that isn't malt, though. Like coconut or something.

Taste - Tropical fruit and grapefruit. Sweet caramel malts. Herbal character comes out more in the grassy bitterness. A little musty.

Mouthfeel - Bitterness lingers on the palate. The grassy bitter finish is intense. Medium body.

Overall - The hop tastes really good up front. Maybe too bitter, but it's a well made IPA.
