Sample #2 at the brewpub 1/29/14
This beer, a blend of tradition with newer tastes, is an appropriate murky medium-dark brown. It has a light brown head, not especially large but reasonably so, with good retention as well as lacing.
The blend of new and old is apparent from the get-go, as popping out of the aroma and in the flavor is a curious but well-tuned blend of roast in a strong malt backbone and sourness with a dry, woody sort of edge to it. The roast is strong but never going toward char, staying soft enough just to complement the sourness and take the sting out of it a little. Once everything's melded together, it gets very tart from the middle to the end.
The body is medium with soft carbonation adding a bit of bite while it counters smoothly.
