Cigar City Brewing - Hopped on the High Seas dry-hooped with Kohatu
12 oz. can, dated "2/20/14" on the bottom

Appearance: Clear yellow-gold body. Fluffy two-finger head of bright-white. Excellent head retention and very good lacing.

Aroma: My first impression was that of a janitor's closet! It's minty and sweetish with a hint of lemony citrus. Some mild malt and some other fruity notes makes their way through if you look hard enough, but the minty hops really take over (for me at least).

Flavor: As in the aroma, the hops seem to be the point of this beer, and that's OK, it's a noble experiment. You get to really know what these hops are like (I've never even heard of them); and as such the malt is just a base for the experiment (straightforward, mildly grainy). I guess that's where the designation "Caribbean-style IPA" comes from. So, again, it's minty, and just subtly piney with background notes of lemon and perhaps other citrus, as well as some pear or melon. It's bitter as would be appropriate for an IPA, and it finishes dry and hoppy but it's not particularly lingering.

Mouthfeel: Crisp. Medium bodied.

Overall: An interesting beer. I enjoyed learning about the characteristics of the Kohatu hops, and it's well-made, and surprisingly balanced, but it's not a beer that I'd particularly return to. Still, I think I've got to rate it pretty well based on it's technical merits and not any hedonistic preferences of my own.

[12 oz. can] pours thick 3 finger white head. told by a friend it might be over carbonated, and to open over sink. carbonated , but not a gusher. golden straw hazy color.

smells fruity with kiwi, bananas, and lemony citrus. very interesting and fresh.

fruits very forward on taste. matches smell. kiwi and citrusy. very sweet and not so bitter. sweetness and fruitiness is this beers game. different, but in a good way. light to moderate mouthfeel, and slightly overcarbonated but not to the point of having to give it away.

finishes more bitter on the end, than front. slightly dry.

pretty good beer by CCB. fruity/different which seems to be what they've been doing with these Hopped on the High Seas beers. good beer overall. I think I will keep getting Hopped on the High Seas in the future. Arrrrggg matie!!!

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a poco grande tulip. Canned on 2/20/14.
Pours a cloudy golden orange with a lot of fluffy white head that leaves a ton of lacing in the glass.
Smells of sweet fruit and a little brewed tea.
Tastes like drinking a glass of peach/mango/papaya juice with a little bitterness.
That same fruit flavor lingers on the tongue well after the first swallow.
A very smooth drinking IPA. Would like a little more bitter bite from this one to even it out, but still a very decent offering from CCB.

The beer pours a golden color with a white head. Smells bright and hoppy, with herbal, green tea and citrus notes. In the taste, more citrus, generic sweet fruit and herbal tea. Good bitterness, and solid flavor. Overall, this is a decent. Not a world beater but solid.
