Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at Cigar City tasting room. Served in a pint glass.
A: Dark amber, nearly opaque. Forms a thin cream-colored head with moderate retention and modest visible carbonation.
S: Roasted malts, some chocolate, mild grassy and citrus rind hops - a clean lager smell with no sulfurous undertones.
T: Roasty toasty malts, citrus, resin and grassy hops, and mild chocolate sweetness from the malts. Ends with hoppy and roasted bitterness.
M: Lighter body than the appearance suggested but medium overall. Alcohol well-hidden, medium carbonation sensation.
O: This is the first "secret altbier" I've ever had, so I don't have a basis for comparison. Looking up the style, it seems to fit the bill pretty well. Regardless, I found it quite enjoyable and certainly something a little different to drink. Recommended to try at least once.
Serving type: on-tap
