BlackberryGrove is an American Sour Blackberryale that experiences three fermentations. Primary fermentation is conducted with lactobacillus, a bacterial that sours the wort. The secondary fermentation takes place when we add an aleyeast. The tertiary fermentation is spurred by the addition of blackberries. The acidity of this elegant ale cuts fatty foods and oily fish from the palate beautifully. Pairs well with mussels cooked in gueuze, ceviche terrines and rich, creamy cheese or cheesecake.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Purplish red - nearly the color of cranberry juice - and mildly hazy. Forms a thin white head, though it fades quickly, with lower visible carbonation than expected.
S: Lactic tart, berry fruitiness, and mild Lactobacillus funk. Husky pale malts, and the weird dishwater aroma that many of CCB's sours have as well. Some lemony citric acid mixed with the blackberry pie filling. Decent aroma, but it doesn’t hit me quite right.
T: Tart berries, dry citric acid, and a modest Lacto funk. Lactic acid bite and the tart underripe blackberries. Grainy pale malts again. Dry and tart finish with more husky “dishwater” in the hang.
M: A light body, with carbonation sensation just a bit lower than desired. Low alcohol presence.
O: This isn't my favorite, though it’s not the worst of the “Lactobacillus Grove” series. The blackberries add a nice sweet and tart balance.
NOTE: I won’t change the rating, but this did get significantly better after eating some curry chicken wings. I'm not sure quite what to make of that, but if you're going to drink this, either let it warm significantly, or have it with some food. Or both.

This beer surprised me. It has a great balance of a very pleasing sour lacto taste and a slightly sweet blackberry flavor that comes in towards the end. Neither overwhelms but works well in a very drinkable, refreshing beer. I also picked up a little bit of a wood flavor. Not sure where it came from but it adds to the overall enjoyment (for lack of a better word) and dare I say complexity of this sour. I would definitely seek this out.
