Outskirts is an Imperial Porter aged in Bourbon Barrels. Outskirts presents itself on the nose with aromas of star anise and the unmistakable vanilla-wood-alcohol punch of the bourbon barrels in which it was aged. Semi-sweet chocolate, treacle and a trace of dried blackberry flavors combine with vanilla and leather on the palate to deftly hide it's 14.5% alcohol content. Viscous but never cloying, soft wood tannins and alcohol spiciness balance Outskirts' formidable body.

Here's a selection that made it all the way to March Madness 2022, the half session.
Pours black into a plastic hotel casino cup. Its black black. Brown head, thin 1/4". The label depicts a picture of my cracked feet. The aroma is roasted malt, honey, bourbon. Can something smell sticky? Prolly just the ol' memory noggin thingee.
The taste is pretty good. Still kicking that gooey mouth feel chocolate, whiskey, honey, leather, oak, roasted malt al over the place. Well not all over, just everywhere. Its a viscous, sticky body. But it actually isn't hefty in a tired way. Kind of nimble for something this size. It doesn't have that big huge ibu roasted imperialized thing, its almost like an English porter in the way it isn't over hopped or bitter despite a plenty big and dark body. Vanilla is used in just the right amount to where it doesn't come off too sweet or silky, but does ease along a very big alcohol blast.
Definitely a cigar beer. Forgot which one I smoked with this one.

Out of the blue tap on site at the brewery. Thick and oily. Bourbon way up front followed by chocolate. Great mouthfeel. At 14.5 you can easily confuse this for a stout. Awesome beer.

750mL bottle acquired through the El Catador Club. Bottled 3/7/16 (Enjoyed 8/16/17). Served in a Cigar City teku.
Pours oil black with a little more than two fingers of khaki froth. Loose retention.
Smells of wet, oaky bourbon, chocolate, caramel and a vague nasal tickle of fuesal alcohol.
Huge, deep, rich and roasty flavors. Bourbon filled dark chocolate, burnt mallow, wet oak, cooked caramel, molasses, toast and of course a hearty dose of alcohol.
Full, almost sludgy body with subtle carbonation. The decadent aftertaste is liek bourbon
-glazed, chocolate covered roasted caramel.
Outskirts is a huge barrel aged imperial porter. Cigar City delivers a strong entry to the advertised style. No surprises, as they have long been one of my favorite purveyors of big dark beers.
