A - The base beer pours phenomenal and so does this one. Deep black in color with a lovely brown one finger head. No real lacing to speak of.

S - The cedar punches you right away. Once you're used that, then you'll find dark chocolate and molasses hiding in the background.

T - Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and plums. The cedar is mixed in with all those flavors.

M - Perfect... Thick and carbonated to coat your palette.

O - I had the regular Marshal Zhukov last night and prefer the Humidor Series. In my opinion, the cedar really balances out the sweetness of the RIS base beer. A very well done RIS!

Thanks Denim Dave, for sharing this last night at Blue Palms.

Pitch black with a creamy tan head with superb retention.

Huge cedar notes well balanced by a sweet, delicate espresso note and tons of leather and tobacco. Awesome.

On the palate the tobacco notes reign with a bit of allspice and a hint of heat that really emphasizes a cigar-like quality on the front half of th palate. Velvety and rich with a lingering sweet note but sufficiently dry.

Unlike anything I've had before, and an awe-inspiring way to be introduced to Cigar City. This is truly a great beer.

First breaking the seal reveals a lumber yard of cedar aroma. Pouring into a cigar city snifter unveils a murky, dark and beautiful imperial stout. When this beer hits your tongue, flavors of vanilla and dried fruit are first, followed by a distinct and overwhelming wood finish. Humidor is an imperial stout at it's finest, and I expect nothing less from one of the best breweries in the United States.

Pours thick and almost black with a small brown head, found this to be better than Zhukov in every sense, and Zhukov was great. A roma is bitter cocoa and espresso, the cedar seemed to mellow the ashy burnt nose quite a bit, flavor is just the same, bitter chocolate, dark fruit, and a healthy dose of cedar. What a difference the Cedar makes. Not quite as noticeable in the IPA. It actually stained the glass as I sipped. Thick full body, Just delicious.

750ml into a CCB Snifter. Bottle dated Sept 2011.

Pous thick and sludgy, just like Marshal Z. always does. Puts up a sexy dark brown head that leaves a little lacing on the glass as it falls. CCB's Imperial Stouts are among the best looking in the business.

Nose is outstanding. The spicy cedar is a fantastic companion for the earthy, leathery, tobacco notes typical of this beer. The cedar is in perfect balance right now, I'm probably wouldn't age this one much longer.

Taste is voluptuous. Dark fruits and earthen roasted malts - the wood leads to a drying finish that you don't usually get from the base beer. Roasted woods linger.

Mouthfeel is the strong point of this brew. Beyond full. Heavy. Creamy. I'd give it a 6 if I could.

Overall, this is a fantastic treatment of an already stellar stout. This beer was gifted to me by a fellow beer geek who will remain nameless. I owe him one.

Big thanks to cvm4 (Cliff) for this bottle!

This pours magnificent. Black as night, with the most robust, chocolaty head ever conceived. Aroma was monster coffee, dark roasted malts, chocolate, and a spicy woody note. Fairly same translation to the taste: huge coffe and chocolate with a high roasted/charred note and a spicy wood note. Thick as can be, coats the mouth and glass.

While some impy stout can seem daunting, the sheer excellence here negates that possibility.

A - Pours opaque pitch black, probably the blackest I've ever seen in a stout. Frothy dark brown head with a flash of blood red, chunky lacing coats the glass

S - Cocoa, dark chocolate, a little black licorice, coffee, molasses. Not much of the Spanish cedar that appears so prominently in their Humidor IPA but what is there is a nice touch to an already awesome stout.

T - Fresh black premium coffee, dark chocolate, a little molasses and vanilla.

M - Thick, delicious motor oil. Heavy body, coats the entire mouth. Sweet & sticky.

O - I traded an '11 Abyss for this and would do it again. I don't have to wait for this one to be at its best - it's amazing right now. I'm a huge Zhukov fan and the addition of Spanish cedar only improved what's already a phenomenal stout. I wish Cigar City would make this as available as Humidor IPA. I'd buy cases of it.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Cigar City Brewing branded snifter

Pours black as pitch capped by a smooth dark brown one and half finger head. Obviously the cedar-aged version retains the amazing appearance of Marshall Zhukov, one of the most gorgeous imperial stouts one can find. Tons of deep dark chocolate and dark fruit all accented by the aroma of cedar. Opens with dark chocolate notes, prunes, black cherry notes, and raisins. Molasses notes midpalate joined by pleasant cedar. Finishes with roasted dark chocolate malt, espresso notes, and continued cedar accents. Huge full body, lower level of carbonation. Velvety, creamy mouthfeel-darn near perfect. Just an absolutely wonderful brew. The base beer is one of the best Russian imperial stouts available and the aging on cedar just gives it another dimension.

This beer was served in a goblet. It was a little too cold to start but as it warms up it becomes something special.

A- The body of the beer is black with no opaqueness. The head of the beer is thick and looks like a scorched chocolate milk. Nice oily film marks the beers passage from my glass. It looks really viscous.

S- Toasted, chared and even burnt dark malt almost to the coffee level but more of the dark cocoa and milk chocolate levels. Wrapping around these smells are an ever present ceder aroma.

T- If you want to know what a cedar chest taste like this would be a good start. Earthy and spicey wood tones wrap around dark roasted cocoa and chocolate a bit of leatheryness at the back end. Its a bit boozey but works really well.

M- Full bodied with a low level of carbonation. Nice long lasting bitter roasted flavors.

O- Very nicely doen this is a perfect beer to drink on a cold Cincinnati morning.

Poured from tap into a Tulip glass.

Color: Black with a dark brown head.

Smell: Chocolate, coffee and cedar.

Taste: Chocolate coffee, alcohol, cedar and slighly smokey.

Mouthfeel: Creamy with good carbonation and pleasantly smooth.

Overall: Was able to enjoy this on-tap at Sweetwater Grill for the Cigar City tap takeover.
Has a great complexity to this one. The cedar and alcohol come thru very nicely. Cheers!

Absolute black and thick. Looks like motor oil staining the inside of my glass with a three finger dark brown head that fades slowly and leaves huge rings of dark lace behind.

The aroma is amazing. Full of dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, dark fruit, plums, raisins, black cherry, vanilla, pipe tobacco, leather notes and of course cedar.

The cedar makes itself known over a rich chocolate and coffee backbone. Hints of dark fruit like cherry, plum, raisin with vanilla and tobacco notes.

Thick, smooth and chewy

A definite sipper. hard to finish because it is so rich. Definitely one to share and sip on a cold night.

Deep dark black in color. Huge tan head comes up and over the top and really fills the glass right to the rim. Hardly anything falls off of it for several minutes. Huge amounts of sticky tan foam all up and down the sides of the glass. Tons of chocolate and fruit notes just jumping out at you from the very first touch of it to the air. Notes of whiskey, hints of cedar and rich chocolate are all infused together seamlessly to put a wonderful touch on it. Enormous feel here, with huge carbonation just lets the flavor coat the entire tongue and really just gives it a wonderful sense of fullness to it. Rich chocolate and licorice notes just play off each other soo well. This was just wonderfully done. Hints of grapes, touches of almost apples coming through now. Very rich. Nice boozy and oak notes now coming through and giving it a very nice balance and richness
