Notes from a recent bottle share.
I had no idea what a cedar aged stout would be like, then we opened this bottle and I thought I had brought my humidor to the share. Huge, wet, cedar scents waft up out of the glass and gree the nose along with some strong dark malts. After a minute, the cedar takes a bit of a back seat and some dark fruits emerge out of the malts. When taking a taste, the cedar is the prominent flavor once again, dominating the tongue. The wood is most of the flavor for the first half of the drink before moving towards mostly dry malt flavors. Burnt is the best was to describe the move form the cedar. In the glass and on the palate, this beer is just viscous, thick, and smooth. Great lacing off of a richly colored head.
Overall, this was a pretty awesome beer that really displays the affect of a different type of wood aging. A definite bottle to seek out if you can.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Cigar City Brewing branded snifter
Pours black as pitch capped by a smooth dark brown one and half finger head. Obviously the cedar-aged version retains the amazing appearance of Marshall Zhukov, one of the most gorgeous imperial stouts one can find. Tons of deep dark chocolate and dark fruit all accented by the aroma of cedar. Opens with dark chocolate notes, prunes, black cherry notes, and raisins. Molasses notes midpalate joined by pleasant cedar. Finishes with roasted dark chocolate malt, espresso notes, and continued cedar accents. Huge full body, lower level of carbonation. Velvety, creamy mouthfeel-darn near perfect. Just an absolutely wonderful brew. The base beer is one of the best Russian imperial stouts available and the aging on cedar just gives it another dimension.

Bottle courtesy of Kyle and shared BYOB style at a local joint....why don't more places in this town offer a corking fee? It's just a damn good idea.
Big boisterous black beauty out of the bottle..another large and in charge CCB stout.
Unmistakably cedar driven on the nose....gerbil cage and all. Base is masked.
The sweet complexities of regular Zhukov are cloaked in a very potent and pervasive cedar closet jamboree. Barrel influence is heavy and inclusive as the base stout plays permissive underling all leather bound and bondage like.
Rich, thick, and massively cedar infused.
For what it is I enjoyed this..cedarized stout..think Habitrail on roids.

This poured out as a dark black color with a thin brown head on top. The smell of the beer is mostly made up of heavy amounts of roasted malts, there is a touch of cedar in there as well though. The taste is very similar to the regular Zhukov but again the cedar comes into play with some subtle tangy spicy notes in the finish. Overall it's a great stout.
