Jai Alai – IPA (7.5%) - Cigar City Brewing (Florida)
App: Pours a bright copper with a one finger off white head that retains well and leaves plenty of lacing up the glass. Brew is slightly hazy with visible hops sediment and steady carbonation.
Smell: Earthy and piney notes hit first, backed up with a slight chile like bitterness. Malt aroma present as well, pretty significant caramel aroma. Smell is very clean and inviting. Hoppy no doubt, but not overwhelming. Slightly green, fresh hop aroma as well as beer warms.
Taste: Foretaste is sweet, but not overwhelming. Quickly coupled with waves of hops bitterness that never over do themselves, allowing the sweet and slightly caramely malt backbone to stay present throughout drinking. The hops and malt in this one are incredibly well balanced, with each hop flavor both pulling away from, and complementing the persistent sweetness of the malt. Hops are floral, earthy, with just a touch of resinous quality that makes them bright and engaging, and never too bitter.
Mouth: Solid medium body. Fits style very well. Carbonation is moderate. Very drinkable.
Home tasting, 12oz can into Snifter. 4/11/14.

Jai Alai has become my favorite beer after trying over 30 different IPAs. The can has a nice design to it and I always appreciate companies that list their alcohol percentage on the label. Haven't been able to find it in bottles, but it doesn't really make too much of a difference to me since I pour it into a glass. Has a great orange color to it, and unbeatable aroma of tangerines and other citrus.
Very drinkable, not too heavy, I find it to be the perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because I've noticed every so often I seem to get a batch where the flavor seems to be off. Regardless, I haven't found a better IPA or beer in general as satisfying as this, especially considering how easy it is to find here now.
