stumbled across a sixer of this brew while visiting family in alabama, so i was excited to try my first from cigar city after hearing solid reviews about their product. feel my expectations may have been set too high...
poured a classic orange-amber with a respectable head that left some lacing along the sides of my pint glass. nose is extra malty, with molasses, honey, and a bit of a floral apricot/stone fruit quality in there as well. definitely more of an english or east coast approach to the style. hops are pretty well hidden in this ale, with some dryness on the back end. so much maltier than i was thinking i'd get, and that detracts from american style ipa in my book. mouthfeel is creamy and a bit chewy. overall this beer is certainly drinkable, but at almost $11 on the six i'd choose loads of ipas before this one every day.
