Canned 28 June 2013. Thanks to cubanbeerguy for the can. Tasted 1 August 2013, reviewed from notes.
Pours a hazy medium amber-orange. 1.5 fingers off-white head, good retention and lovely terraces of lacing. Excellent.
Smell is undoubtedly the star of this beer, as it should be in most IPAs. Big citrus-piney blend, like a grapefruit orchard crossed with a pine forest (they have both of those in Florida, right?). Has a sweetness as well, adding orange and a touch of pineapple to the mix. Fanatastic.
Taste is good. A little chalky, and without those citrus and pine characters shining through like they do in the smell (which is, I know, much tougher to pull off in the taste). There is a touch of citrus, but mostly it's a mostly-clean, slightly chalky flavor. Kinda low on the bitterness for an IPA, but enough that it satisfies my desires, though folks who want their tongues sandpapered may be disappointed.
Feel is pleasant. Medium-bodied, a little fuzzy in the carbonation. Fades out but leaves a low long-lasting bitterness on the tongue.
A really nice IPA, heavily hop-forward in the smell, a little less so in the taste. Good stuff, and one that I'd drink frequently if it were available here. Happy I have another can!

This is my first experience with Cigar City, a friend gave me a can and I cant wait to try it. The pour is a somewhat hazy orange copper color with little head but very nice lacing. The aroma is pure hops. Lots of pine and citrus accented by some mango and tropical fruits. The nose makes it hard to believe that this is a single ipa and not a double. The body is medium and a little chewy with lots of hop resin beautifully coating the mouth. The flavor is an awesomely fresh hop bomb with all the notes that the nose promised augmented by just enough malt to balance the beer yet lend it virtually no sweetness. I still feel like the flavor is closer to a dipa than a single. This is a damn good beer and one that I would definitely try if it is in your area. Cigar City please come to Michigan.
