A – Caramel-orange; fairly clear. One finger thick white head, nice lacing

S – Citrus aroma; a little pine hint

T – Immediate citrus, mango/orange with a good hop note and balance...a little hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

M – Medium-bodied, nice carbonation. moderately dry

O – I'd put this in a class with some of the top IPAs I've had Bell's, Sculpin, Stone...they have their individual personalities, but all high-level.

October 3, 2015

12 oz can, tulip

A – Deep orange to medium-light amber, and very clear. Foam head, white, is thick, about an inch and a half, and very long-lasting, a cap of a couple centimeters remaining .

S – A lot of citrus, grapefruit, melon, mango, with a very low note of pine or herbal spiciness. Some light caramel malt but mostly light bread crust and baked crackers.

T – A lot of mango here and grapefruit strong in the mix. Maybe a touch of nectarine. Bread crust and crackers.

M – Medium-bodied and not as carbonated as it appeared to be, moderate-low carbonation. Mouthfeel is a bit heavy for an IPA, with a touch of slickness, only moderately dry. Bitterness is quite noticeable but not overwhelming, in balance with the hop flavor.

O – Love the look and aroma on this one, but it left a lot to be desired for me on the second half of the experience. Still a solid IPA.

Just tried this for the first time and I am impressed.
Not much on the nose, a little pine, maybe some mango. But the taste is so smooth with lots of tropical fruit notes and a nice dry finish that keeps you reaching for another sip.
I will be buying this again!

L - Color is typical of the style. Medium head fades fast.

S - More citrus than the "old school" IPAs but not as much as the big Vermont names or MBC.

T - Well balanced between bitter, sweet, and malt. Some citrus and pine. Lacks the tropical flavors of my favorites.

F - Nice feel for an IPA. Round, smooth, without being too thick.

O - Clearly better than run-of-the-mill IPAs, but also clearly below the top names, at least for me.

Super citrusy, orange, mango, papaya, grapefruit on the nose, smells like fruit juice. Nice juicy overly ripe fruit, orange, papaya, kiwi, melon, with grapefruit in the background. Mouthfeel is medium, alc covered, aftertaste is bitter grapefruit, the overripe juice starts to fade away. Overall this is an amazing IPA. Fresh as f*** too - canned 9/25/2015 drank 10/1/2015.

I had this beer for the first time today. It had a very nice aroma (citrusy) and it went down very silky and smooth! I can see why this beer is highly rated.

The beer pours a nice and white bubbly head that dissipates quickly but leaves a bit of white stuff on the surface. The beer itself is a clear pale amber color that looks wonderful in the light.

The beer smell is pretty good and fairly balanced even if it is a little on the hoppy side. The smell has a strong and diverse hop note with different kinds coming through. The most noticeable hop note is a strong pine smell and the other notes are mainly citrusy with a slight tropical hint. The hop notes are accompanied by a nice sweet caramel malt note that complements the tropical and citrus hops perfectly.

The taste is just as good as the smell in terms of strength and quality. The hop note is fairly strong and mainly comes out as citrusy and tropical with a slight pine note towards the end. The caramel malt taste is still there but not as strong as the smell.

The feel is pretty good. The beer has a smooth feel and the carbonation gives a slight texture that works very well. Slightly dry finish.

Overall, a very good IPA and I can see why it's considered to be one of the best. Get it.

This is in the top 5% of IPA's if had, and I've had quite a few. From the color, to the smell to the taste. The taste is where it's at. The most wonderful balance of citrus and hops. The flavor just bounces around your mouth. I can see why this scores so high..

Concord Grapes! It took me a while to place the flavor, but there is a very upfront concord grape taste to Jai Alai. May not be for everyone, but I love it. In fact, now that I've placed the flavor, it's hard to taste much else, but that doesn't bother me. Otherwise, this has a light amber color, pleasant smell (not as concord grapey smelling as it is tasting) and has moderate astringence. For an IPA, it's light enough to be highly drinkable by me, a relative lightweight with low tolerance who doesn't like the reeeally bitter and heavy IPA's. One of my favorites! For my taste, better than Racer 5.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark straw color with a two finger head that recedes at a glacier's pace and leaves two inches of lacing. Aroma of pine hops, floral hops, and pineapple. Taste follows the nose with a pineapple and piney hop front followed by floral and citrus hop finish that is just slightly bitter to balance out the pineapple. Medium body and medium carbonation with no bitter or boozy aftertastes. Very crisp and drinkable without diminishing the hops.
Beautiful IPA that does multiple hops well. It really lets each hop stand out with overdoing it. It's even good looking and has a appetizing smell. This would be something I drank a lot if I had access to it.

Canned 9/2/15. A very well done citrus forward IPA. However, I didn't find it terribly exceptional. I've had a number of IPAs with a similar flavor profile that were just as good. Nevertheless, still incredibly drinkable.

Poured cold into a tulip glass. Can date of 6/4/14 consumed on 7/18.
Look = 4.5 Pours a cloudy vibrant orange that clears up as it warms. 3 fingers of think, frothy white head that eventually fades to a cap. Great retention and great lacing. Only knock on the look is some floaties that become apparent after the beer clears up.
Aroma = 5.0 Terrific smelling beer. Crazy hops, citrus and tropical fruit. Pineapple and orange come out the most. A little sweet in a futile attempt to balance it. Really great aroma.
Taste = 4.0 Follows the nose. Lots of citrus, a lot of orange juice. Not much balance to it. A strong bitter finish that lingers well into the aftertaste, more bitter than I was expecting.
Feel = 3.5 Low to medium bodied and low to medium carbonation. A little more carbonation would give it a little more snap that would suit the citrus and tropical fruit flavors. A little syrupy, as the aftertaste sticks to your mouth.
Drinkability = 4.5 7.5% ABV is well hidden. A terrifically drinkable IPA, goes down quick and smooth.
Overall = 4.3 A really great IPA, has to be considered one of my favorites. Aroma is among the best I’ve encountered but the feel left a little to be desired.

Been looking forward to trying this for a long time. It did not disappoint. Superb citrus smell when opened. It is just perfectly hopped and amazingly drinkable and refreshing for the abv. A top of the heap IPA!

Clear dark amber colored.

Aroma on opening was very strong citrus, which carried through to the flavor.

Caramel notes from the malt, balancing out nicely.

Didn't taste as high in alcohol as it apparently is.

Cigar City Jai alai IPA was an India Pale Ale that I was really looking forward to before I got the chance to try it. After multiple attempts at trying this beer to give it the benefit of the doubt, I am still left unsatisfied.

Lots of buttery tobacco notes that I could not stand. I thought it could of been because the can was old or bad, but after 3 different attempts, this beer is hype.

This is coming from someone living in San Diego, it just might not be my jazz.
If I make it to Tampa, or see it on tap, I'll give it another go.

Canned dated 8/21 poured into a glass. Outstanding appearance on this. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit and peach or tangerine. Taste follows the aroma with bit of bitter pine and nice caramel malt backbone. I will definetaly be on the look out to get more of this.

This has to be my favorite IPA. Very drinkable with a strong abv. Nice head at the pour and thins all the way of your drink. Typical IPA hops, citrus, Carmel with the right amount and nice full bodied finish. I treat myself with a 6pk once in a while. Local brewed across the bay from me so it arrives fresh in all the stores and flys off the shelf.

Holy cow. I had this a few years ago for the first time and wow it still doesn't disappoint. Pineapple mango hoppy piney goodness. The feel on this is great and the malt to back up the hops tops it all. Not many better.

Appearance - typical of the style, orange in color with solid lacing. Smell - hops and citrus. Maybe grapefruit. Taste - bitter hops then hit with citrus. Slightly lingering bitter on the back end. Overall - very solid beer. I would love to have this again. Lucky enough to grab it on tap too.

From a growler filled in ATL at Hop City KSM, poured into a tulip glass.

Look: nice slightly cloudy golden, good 1/2 inch head

Smell: citrus, citrus, citrus!

Taste: one of my favorite AIPAs. Little malty, little piney, very, very good.

Feel: Surprisingly creamy. Not heavily carbonated.

Overall: I jump on Jai Alai when I can find it in GA. I've definitely been known to bring some back from Florida road trips...

12oz can dated 8/25/2015
Poured into a tulip

Pours a nice copper color with hints of amber coloring as well. Nice fluffy pillowy head with some sticky lacing. Tons of sweetness on the nose. Hints of pine, pineapple and some orange. The taste follows beautifully. You get citrus, grapefruit, grapefruit pith, pine, pineapple, hints of orange with a huge sweet malt backbone that carries throughout the palate. As the beer warms a little you get more of those pineapple notes coming thru. Nice sticky mouthfeel. A world class IPA in my opinion.

Pours golden with a short head. Smell is of floral hops with some citrusy rind. Taste is bluntly hoppy with some sweet malt flavor. Bitterness stays on strong with a peppery mouth-feel. Overall this beer is, to me, very much like an "old school IPA." It's not quite good enough to fully compete with the breweries making "top-tier" IPAs, but it's certainly going to be better than your average beer.

Received this as an extra in a trade from Gdirt, thanks Greg!

Tried this in the same sitting as I- 10 IPA from Intuition Ale Works. This is probably blasphemy, but I preferred the I - 10 to Jai Alai. Jai Alia was fine, but not as tasty as the I - 10.

This was a great tasting beer outside of the "big boys" from treehouse, all of Vermont and other big players in the IPA game right now. Insanely crushable and would love to have regular access to this brew. The only drawback is 12oz cans.
