Citrus bomb! Love it

A - slightly hazy burnt orange body beneath a sticky 2-finger off white head. Great retention and lacing

S - Grapefruit and orange smack in the face followed by hard candy sweetness and ending with alcohol

T&M - Not as sweet as I expected with a slightly puckering bitterness which is nice along with the strong grapefruit and orange flavors. As it warms I get more of a bitter kumquat flavor. Good body with moderate carbonation. Alcohol is a little warming and adds a slickness to the feel. The hops really hide the alcohol well but you can definitely tell it is there

O - really enjoy this beer. Wish it wasn't so expensive up here

12oz can into tulip

A: Deep golden, light hazy hazel colored brew that donned a nice two-two and a half finger head that was paper white in color. Grippy spider web like lacing clings to the entirety of the glass, retention is good – no visible sediment, although doesn’t appear filtered

S: Somewhat sour white wine/grape aroma dominates the nose – rather interesting aroma, very different from other IPAs I’ve whiffed. Cider notes complex with a sharp sorta yeastiness. Has a bit of a subtle sweetness in the tail end, lightly hoppy.

T: Fruity, but in an indirect way that diverges from the nose a bit. White grape, banana - has a Belgian sort of spin on it. Very light spice presence, silky and a little bready - Obvious malt dries out the middle mouth while adding a nice balance. The middle mouth pulls the mixed flavor of orange and possibly lemon, but without their typical citrus zest. Notes of clove, ginger, and coriander loom somewhere in the background without substantial individuality – Bold

M: Kinda creamy, bigger body than most – mouth filler - frothy. After taste is sweet and dry leaving a noticeable coating on the tongue and mouth. Carbonation is present, but understated.

O: Very different than any of the IPAs I’ve had in the past. It honestly reminds me of a tripel and therefore lacks the robust tropical fruitiness that I find crisp and refreshing. While the flavors I encountered were not displeasing, they weren’t exactly what I’m looking for when I scoop an AIPA. Definitely a unique beer, an interesting spin on the style

Appearance:
Pours a cloudy, copper color body with a decent stream of carbonation and quite a bit of sediment. Crowned by a finger-thick, white head that hangs around for awhile and leaves plenty of lacing behind.

Aroma:
Simply fantastic! A vibrant rush of pineapple, mandarin oranges, and kiwi. Very sweet with hints of pine and caramel.

Taste:
Starts of bitter, fades to sweet, then wraps up with a faint bitterness. Pine on the first wave ushers in a potent, sweet malt and various tropical fruit. Wraps up with a hint of pine and ground pepper. Light booziness on the finish.

Mouthfeel:
Smooth and easy to drink. Medium-bodied with incredibly light carbonation. Sediment is sometimes big enough that you can't help but notice it. Finishes sweet but clean with a slight stickiness.

Overall:
Fantastic brew that I'm happy a friend of mine was willing to part with, seeing as there are plenty of miles between us and the nearest state that sells Cigar City brews. Well worth your coin, even if you're not a fan of most IPAs.

Poured from can into pint glass. Big thanks to Beerdunson for including this in a trade as an extra. Date of review is 3/26/14

Appearance- Caramel and copper with a 3/4 finger head. Well carbonated with great lacing.

Smell- Mango and hops burst into my face. I then get limes, strawberries and barnyard. One of the best smelling IPAs I have ever had.

Taste- Honey-drizzled mangoes and hops are right up front. Just a tiny bit of malt present. I also get just a splash of lime just like in the nose.

Mouthfeel- This beer is really unique in the sense that it is super smooth at first and then about 5 seconds later it blast you with hops. I love the resiny tropical fruit film it leaves in my mouth.

Overall- So damn good for a shelf beer! We get no CCB beers here in Ohio, so this is a real treat. One of the best IPAs I've had.
