Poured aggressively into a pint glass.
Pours a clear copper color with a one finger head. Great lacing and decent retention for an IPA. Huge lacing down the entire glass.
On the nose is orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine and other citrus esters. Earthy notes linger in the back and some pine resin begins to come through at the end.
Taste is very citrus forward. Sweet tangerine and bitter grapefruit meld perfectly. Some malt backbone really gives this beer a great balance. Some honey sweetness. Pine bitterness rests on the back of the tongue but its not just a hop bomb. There's a hint of grain/wheat at the very end that was surprising but welcomed as a nice touch for this style.
On the light side of medium bodied but not watery at all. Very nice carbonation. Keeps the flavors alive in your mouth and makes the beer very refreshing.
Very good IPA. Would definitely drink again. Well worth seeking out.

Light amber, clear as a bell, minimal white head that leaves instantly.Average lacing at best.
Aroma is that all so common malty blast with hops hidden in the background. Not at all getting the waves of various tropical aromas described in the numerous reviews. The nose makes me anticipate another IPA with a diacetyl edge.
No disappointment: it tastes exactly as it smells, with the slightly syrupy sweetness ruling over the hops with dominance. There is a slight grapefruit rind bitterness a second or so into the swallow, but it is another case of too little, too late. This IPA blows one note, and it is a pretty boring one after a couple sips.
Mouthfeel is medium, syrupy, grainy, low carbonation.
Clearly a matter of taste here, but I prefer a hop forward IPA, and Jai Alai doesn't meet that qualification for what I am seeking. Anyone expecting a tropical fruit blast from Jai Alai is bound to be disappointed, and I wouldn't bother to seek it out again despite the unusually high rating.
