750mL shared among friends. While certainly quite good, I cannot imagine consuming 750mL's of this by one's self.
Poured up a lovely orange caramel colour a bit darker than any other saison I have seen. About an inch of loosely knit foam on top faded away in about 60 seconds or so, but only required moderate agitation to be revitalised.
The saison-type smell was very assertive, and the presence of guava was certainly aggressive, too. There was definitely no question as to the style. Fruity, sour, earthy, and a pungent, mouldy smell that immediately reminded me of penicillium mould in bleu cheeses.
All of the nuances in the smell translated over to the flavour, as well, along with a spicy heat in the back of the throat upon swallowing. This is a rather unusual saison, as it seems to introduce some complexities to the style that I've not seen in other American representations of this style; it's a rather unique beer, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Mouthfeel is smooth and pleasantly carbonated given the style.
As unique an experience as this was, and as much as I enjoyed this one, I must say, it was quite assertive and I'm glad there were two others with whom I could share this.
After having a few sips and taking notes for this review, we then
had brought out a plate of Maytag bleu, Midnight Moon goat cheese, some raspberry jam, and rum soaked dates with small dish of crackers. The earthy, mouldy nuances of the beer and the bleu cheese and raspberry jam went wonderfully together!

Trader tells me this is an 09 bottle "back when it used to be good."
A- Hazy honey, with 1/4 finger white cloud head. Very low retention.
S- Best category here. Smells of some passionfruit, not sure if I can pinpoint it to guava considering I live in Colorado. The "malt" beverage follows... ugh. Not a fan of malt beverage.
T- That being said; the passionfruit was the best thing to add to this malt beverage base. I couldn't imagine not drainpour w/o guava. It has the traditional malt beverage taste.
M- A bit much carb for me; kinda harsh. Kinda creamy, kinda smooth. Nothing exceptional.
O- If I had another, I would find someone who likes the style and give it to them.
