A-dark thick brown, not quite black, has a very very large tan head. actually, be careful when you pour this one...there's a lot of head and it doesn't settle quickly. Its a relief though after having many flat beers lately. i much rather see too much head than no head at all. It has really good lacing.

S-its a faint scent, but what i can smell does smell interesting. there's some vanilla, some caramel, some toffee. mostly it just smells really malty though. there's also a good presence of chocolate in here. as the head settles, the aroma becomes stronger and stronger.

T-comes in with a strong taste of straight cocoa bean and toffee. it hits the tongue very dark and very very sweet. its very sweet, almost syrupy sweet. the sweetness lasts and is near over bearing. The after-taste is strong of toffee. I've never actually had a beer that tasted more like a heath bar. the flavor of toffee is undeniable by anyone. there is a slight bitterness toward the end as well.

M-syrupy medium carbonation with a syrupy finish

O-for a long time, on this site it was considered an English barley wine. now i see it categorized as a winter warmer. the bottle labels it as an English barley wine, so i'm just gonna review this as an english ale. to me, its too sweet to be a good winter warmer or barley wine. its just way too sweet. it makes this not too drinkable. i feel it wouldn't be bad with a dessert, shared among friends. finishing off a bottle by yourself might not be fun. i think might be best as a marinade.

Thanks to jtd1969 for bringing this back from Florida.

When I cracked the top on this foam came billowing out of the top of the bottle. It poured a dark brown with a quarter inch of loose, foamy brown head that had decent retention. The nose heavy dark fruit with some notes of barley and candy. The flavor is bready, heavy barley malt up front followed by caramel and dark fruit and finishes with an overwhelming candy sugar sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and a little syrupy but smooth and lightly carbonated.

I really wanted to like this beer. It seemed like all the right elements were there but they didn't all mesh. This one loses a lot of points because of how sweet it was. I had a hard time finishing a glass of it let alone the entire bottle. I'm glad I shared it. This is just way too sweet and candy-like for me to want again.

Poured into snifter. Bottled in 2010.

Appearance: It has a dark, reddish brown color with tremendous off-white head.

Smell: Kind of a funky smell. Sweet at the same time. Fruity. Too funky though.

Taste: Awful sweet taste that overwhelms my palette. Caramel apples, caramel plums, toffee. Too sweet.

Mouthfeel: Very thick. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Definitely not my favorite old ale. Much better ones out there. This way too sweet for me.

Thanks to Special K for bringing this up from Tampa!

A: Deep dark copper color, intense off tan dense head that kept it through the entire glass, incredible
S: medium nose, roasted malt, caramel
T: deep dark roasted malt, sweeter but not cloying, slightly bitter finish - didn't taste pine/citrus as described
M: very thick in mouthfeel, not well-attenuated, definitely on the sweeter side
O: average, too sweet, almost like chocolate pudding in taste, needs considerable more bittering hops

This won't age well.

Found a few bombers of this at Decicco's, so I figured I'd give it a try. This is my first CCB beer as well, out of 750ml bottle.

A- Pours a deep reddish/brown, and is rather murky looking. Has a nice fluffy and light head that faded rather quickly.

S- Sweetish smell of brown sugar/malt/booze. I also catch a wiff of the spice and hops that are present.

T- Definetely tastes of carmel and fig, and finishes with a hoppy bitterness combined with a good balance of brown sugar taste.

M+D- The mouth on this beer is very nice. For 10% it is very palateable, and not too boozy.

While it is a solid beer, it really doesn't match well with my tastebuds. It is a nice complex beer, but the different flavors don't really blend too well together.
I actually drank half of it, and that Vacu-Vin'd the other half so I could taste it again. Tried it again the following night, and felt the same
