This one is served from a 750ml bottle into a Stella Artois snifter. Pours a rather ruddy, muddy, brownish red color. Not exactly pleasing to the eyes. There is a nice, huge and rocky caramel tinted colored head of great retention.

Fruity in aroma with pineapple, some banana, plums, raisins. Loads of caramel backbone in the aroma. Not much hop aroma.

Flavors are a bit muddled. Nothing seems to fit together well. More pineapple and mango in the flavor. Toffee, alcohol really swoops in on this one, slightly boozy. Not very cohesive; quite jumbled. I don't know how else to explain it except that things seems disjointed. Perhaps this one is too young.

Not a huge fan of this one. I like the full body and chewy mouthfeel, but nothing really stood out with this one. (775 characters)

Lightly chilled 25.4 oz. bomber into a 12 oz tulip. 2012-13 vintage.

Look- Medium amber with a reddish tinge. Two fingers of dense eggnog foam. Gobs of sticky lace

Smell- Mild, white raisin, vaguely perfumelike, bubblegum, light treacle, savory spice. Swirling brings out a sweeter, nutty, cherry aroma. Subtle and many-hued.

Taste- Similar to the aroma. Cherry, mint, aloe in light syrup, candied orange peel, maple, milk chocolate, toffee, quite sweet but never overly so. Hints of roast and a vague hop presence defy my expectation. Vaguely woody towards the finish. Lingering nougat. Alcohol is there but not as overt as anticipated. Pretty nice.

Mouthfeel- Full, sticky, smooth. Light carbonation, syrupy feel. Substantial. I'll re-cap the rest for tomorrow.

Overall- An interesting brew, definitely a barleywine feel. Big, bold, lots of layered flavors. It could be lighter, but that's obviously not what it's going for. Absolutely worth picking up, I wish I had a few more to hold onto. (998 characters)

A: The beer is very dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a two finger high dense beige head that died down but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are light aromas of citrus in the nose. As the beer warms up, these become stronger and toffee also becomes very apparent.
T: The overall taste is rather sweet and has flavors of toffee along with notes of chocolate and hints of citrusy hops. The combination of toffee and chocolate make the taste resemble a Tootsie Roll.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a low amount of carbonation.
O: The citrusy aromas are quite unusual and interesting for the style. The alcohol is well hidden from the taste, although the amount of sweetness is what will make you need to sip this beer. (779 characters)

The bottle was 2010, poured into a snifter. It pours a deep copper, slight white head. The aroma is sweeet and boozey. Lots of dark fruit notes. Taste like it smells. The dark fruit flavors really shine. It has a bit of an alcohol burn on the finish. The carbonation is moderate, very smooth. I loved it, can not wait to try my 2011 bottle. (340 characters)

Ridiculously over carbonated. The bottle emptied half of itself out on opening, and even after it settled down foam towered over the glass when it was poured.

A - Murky ice tea brown. Light tan head dominates the glass leaving a striking amount of lace.

S - Plum, coriander, molasses, rich milk chocolate, clove, and a hint of cinnamon.

T - Holy crap this is way too sweet. Strong booze with a syrupy sweet profile of dark dried fruits, chocolate ganache, simple syrup, vanilla, and cream. Cherry, pomegranate, chocolate, and creme brûlée finish.

M - Thick and syrupy.

O - Possibly the sweetest beer I've ever consumed. Way out of balance. (646 characters)

Appearance: dark brown bodied beer with big light brown head.

Smell: This is very fruity and malty. One demensional.

Taste: Woah. This thing is way too sweet. lots of candied sugar and fruity malts. Almost reminds me of a scottish ale that fermented too long. Its a bit boozey too.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Super stick and a little overcarbonated.

Overall: Did not enjoy this beer, but I am not sure this is true to the olde ale style either. Aviod this beer! (627 characters)

Poured into a Saint Somewhere wine-style glass. Label says NOV 2011.

A- Pours a solid brown color with a full two-finger tan head that bears good retention time before becoming a 1/2 inch head. Thick webs of lacing.

S- Smells strong and sweet with a heavy malt aroma. Notes of caramel, spices, dark fruit and anise. Some hop aromas hint more toward a barleywine.

T- Powerful snap of toasty, candied malts with a fair amount of hops and booze to back it up. Overall, a decent balance with rich overtones of dark fruit and spice. Mild licorice flavor is also present. Big notes of raisin and figs.

M- Creamy and smooth with some punch from the high carbonation. Medium-heavy body.

O- Could use a little more aging but I think I plucked it at an appropriate time since I'm celebrating Christmas in June! (805 characters)

Had this on 2012-05-19 in Columbia, PA

A - Opaque dark brown with a 2-finger light tan head and mild lacing. 4.5

S - Raisins, lots of caramel, alcohol, some spice.

T - Too much caramel flavor, raisin, plum, earthy spice, vanilla, coconut, alcohol. Finishes pretty sweet but thankfully a decent amount of hop bitterness attempts to assert itself.

M - Thick body, light carbonation. Treacly.

O - Too cloying for me. I like some aspects of this beer but can't get past the sweetness. (485 characters)

This was a 2010 bottle that I managed to land in a trade (thanks Mark).

APPEARANCE: Murky chocolate-brown color with a khaki colored head that stood over a finger tall and pretty much remained until the last drop. Good head retention with decent lacing.

AROMA: Huge malty sweetness, brown sugar, burnt caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon rolls.

TASTE: You're immediately hit with an in-your-face malty sweetness. Caramel flavor along with a slight bitterness reminiscent of burnt sugar. Very little in the way of hop bitterness though. The candy-like flavor intensifies as this beer warms making for an almost cloyingly sweet finish.

MOUTHFEEL: Full bodied with a thick and syrupy feel. Carbonation is moderate to high (especially for the style).

MOREY'S BOTTOM LINE: While very grateful that I had a chance to try this, I found it to be overly sweet. Sweet can be good, but this was just a bit much. Maybe this would have been better when it was fresh? It's probably safe to assume that 2 years in the basement made this even sweeter than it originally was. (1,059 characters)

Had this bottle at the Walk The Line On Barleywine competition - it had been brewed recently.

A: slightly hazy yellowish copper. Extreme large fluffy beige head of small bubbles persisted. Bottle was a slow gusher after beer had been poured - very slowly foaming over.

S: brown sugar, floral notes, toffee

T: big brown sugar, vanilla, chocolate, floral, black pepper, toffee, woody, spicy

M: Lighter body than expected for the full malt character, very creamy and fizzy due to the high carbonation

O: A nice combination of malt and spices, but way overcarbonated, and with too much residual sweetness (605 characters)

A: very dark brown with gigantic brown head. Opened this at cellar temp and it gushed a bit. Tons of foamy head is left.

S: dark fruits like raisin, a bit of brown sugar, sharp spice or bitterness, and malt.

T: first is the spice, then sweet malt, caramel, and dark fruits. Very good and complex. Quite sweet.

M: carbonation is fine once is stopped gushing out of the bottle. Body is medium-heavy and very nice and smooth feeling, even with the carbonation.

O: very nice beer to have on a cold evening. It was around $10, but I can't remember how much exactly for the 750 ml. Not bad. (592 characters)

This bottle was a slight gusher. It poured a medium bodied dark brown with plum highlights and a creamy two finger beige head. The nose is very malty and a tad sweet. It's slightly bready with some toffee and cherry. The flavors are initially very sweet with plenty of cherry, biscuity malt, molasses, sorghum, toffee, and is has an earthy and yeasty finish. It drinks somewhere in between an old ale and aged barleywine. There is definitely a good amount of sugar. It drinks light and a little sticky. There isn't any alcohol presence at all. This is a nice beer to share but drinking an entire bottle by yourself would be a challenge. If you like barleywines this is definitely up your alley. I'm sure a barrel aged version would be phenomenal. (746 characters)

Split 2011/2012 bottle. Label states 11% ABV.

A: Pours a deep opaque brown with a three-finger tan head with ruddy specks.

S: Brown sugar infused with citrusy hops.

T: Very malty and in spite of the hop aroma, there is little hop bitterness, which leads to an unbalanced beer. I debated whether to drink this now or lay it down (I picked up the last bottle at the store in Florida, and Cigar City doesn't distribute here). Since the description indicates a American hop-forward recipe, I opted for more immediate gratification. I suspect it would have been better to wait.

M: Mildly warm with a massive amount of carbonation.

O: Over the top sweetness with little else going on. I hope that with some time, it would develop dark fruit overtones. (752 characters)

My review for this disappeared somehow, so this is from memory.

A - dark brown. Unattractive, oily-looking, soap-foam-like brownish head

S - smells really great, sweet

T - For a beer with six kinds of hops in it this has zero hop character or bite. That said, I believe it was bottled in late October or early November and I had mine in late march, so the hops may have just degraded. It winds up sweet and very mild.

O - Not very interesting. Tastes good but there's just not a whole lot going on. (502 characters)

Reviewed from notes, thanks to my cousin for the bottle.

A- Ruby red pour into a pint glass with a huge head. The cap is off-white and retains at a finger in size for the whole time. Tons of thick lacing in patches around the glass.

S- Sweet and hoppy aroma. Notes of sugar, pine, herbal tea, floral and caramel. Seems laid back.

T- Dark fruit like cherries and raisin with a lot of table sugar- like sweetness. Hops are moderate and high for an old ale. Herbal, floral, pine and citrus hints. Feels cloying at times.

MF- Creamy moderately thick body with a sweet slick feel. Some alcohol warmth and bitterness but a lot of sweets. Medium carbonation level.

Cigar City just seems to brew really sweet beer like DFH. Good flavor but sweets take over. (754 characters)

Vintage 2010

A: A dumbass pour yields a four+ finger head that takes forever to fade. As it settles, it's a dark, unfiltered cider color.

S: Sweet cornbread and a bit of toasted malt.

T: Much better then I could have hoped for. It's sweet and malty. Really delicious, all things considered. As it warms, the flavors meld beautifully, as the malts and a touch of raisin come to the surface. Still a bit hot to boot.

M: Perfect for cold(er) weather. Thick and creamy - this would certainly keep me warm on a cold winter's night.

O: What a great little beer. CCB's Warmer Winter was the surprise hit of the night. One I look forward to returning to in the future, and if this ever hits a bourbon barrel, the line forms behind me. (793 characters)

Thanks to cbutova for sharing this one, this was the most recent vintage and listed as 11%.

Pours a hazy dark red, big ol beige head sticks around quite well and leaves some lacing.

Straight up dark fruits in the scent, big red grape and raisins specifically. Good strength but a little average.

Taste is an improvement, more complexity. Lots of dark fruit, caramel and toffee. Pretty decent hop power; resin, citrus and some grapefruit noticeable, a little heavy-handed with the sweet malts though.

Good mouthfeel, very sweet but 11% is well-hidden, drinks smooth.

Not bad but a little forgettable... sweetness drags it down a bit which I've noticed often with Cigar City. (678 characters)

2011/2012 edition

A: A very dark caramel almost brown color. A huge head driven by the somewhat excessive carbonation. The initial gentle pour led to a 5-6 finger head that took forever to drop, when it did it left a large amount of lace behind.

S: A hoppy sharpness along with a huge amount of brown sugar sweetness.

T: Loads of caramel malts and brown sugar backed up with a lot of citrus-y american hops. As it warms, there is a fruitiness that I can't determine, is it yeast driven or malt driven, I suspect that it is a combination of the two. Lots of dark fruits coated in sugar along with candied orange and grapefruit. Surprisingly, there is no sign of the 11% alcohol, no heat at all.

M: Rich, creamy mouthfeel somewhat balanced by a ton of (too much?) carbonation. Very tongue coating from the combination of oily hops and a lot of low attenuation of malts.

O: I thought I was going to nurse on the whole bottle in one sitting, basically take a couple of hours and enjoy the bottle, but it is way too heavy and cloying. Half the bottle is plenty. A very good beer, I am glad I tried it, but I am not sure I would buy the next iteration. I would like a little more attenuation and a little less carbonation. It is just a little too rich/sweet, but it is a great sipping/desert beer. (1,327 characters)

I split this three ways with my brother and JC -enjoyed from a mug chilled and allowed to gradually warm.

The color is very murky orange-ish brown with a thick cream cap that holds and lasts, not very attractive although it fits the style. The smell is fragrant with floral and citrus and some mild toffee notes with leather and slight woody herbal notes from the hops with nice sweet malt and light fruit from the yeast, hardly any alcohol. The feel is thick, viscous and sweet unrelenting really with a mild bitterness and mellow spice with slight hint of alcohol near cellar temp.

The flavor is nice with some citrus from the hops and slight caramel body with a gentle creamines from the yeast with hint of spice and toffee as mentioned in the descriptors from the label. The flavor gets a little more earthy and woody as it goes on and the alcohol comes forward, rich and almost meaty with a hint of raisin. The drinkability is good for an 11% beer, not sure I would rush to get this again, but if available I wouldn't hesitate. I think it is a solid brew and like that it doesn't show its strength all that much. (1,123 characters)

Vintage 2011 (11%) dated December 2011 shared with my roommate.

Appearance: Most insane head I've ever seen…almost the whole glass and it overflowed. Foam started pouring out of the bottle when I put it down. Thought it was infected, but if you read the other reviews on here, you'll see the same thing happened to a lot of others.

Smell: Smells of malts, alcohol, plums and figs.

Taste - Tastes the same but with less alcohol burn. Just a nice warm feeling and very sweet. Some hops but not really…almost too sweet (don't think I could drink more than a pint of this) but very good.

Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy.

Overall: I was worried when I saw the reviews for this and paid $11 for the bottle but it was a good beer. My first "Old Ale" and it didn't disappoint. (778 characters)

Let me start by saying that any beer that i drain pour gets the lowest score possible.

Received as a extra in a trade.

I love Old Ales/Barley wines so i was excited to try this one.

Pour was fine nice amber look nice two finger off white head.

Smell like syrup super sweet no hops of any kind detected.

Taste like took a big mouth full of malt extract. If you took a barley wine poured it in a glass and mixed in 4 table spoons of sugar you would end up with this beer.

I drank one glass and had to drain pour the rest. (526 characters)

A thick, cloudy dark mahogany brew with a goodly, stubborn oatmeal colored head and solid lacing. The aroma says brown bread and sweet pine hop and medicinal malt. Oatmeal chocolate nuances, thick and chewy and real high on the olfactory scale. Wow. Immediately followed by another, wow! The flavor just overwhelms the mouth with thick herbal hops and deep dark cereal grain, almost a barleywine deal. Just a lush mix of heavy malt and evergreen with a delicious tart hop bite. The body is full but not gagging, and tiny carbonation makes for a silky feel that caps off a near perfect winter brew. Cigar City maintains its incredible record of awesome brewing! (660 characters)

Cigar City Warmer Winter, bottle bought at New Beer in NYC for $11.75 plus tax. "Brewed for the 2011-2012 Florida Winter".

Appearance: I cracked open the bottle and it literally exploded on me. Loads and loads of foam coming out, unstoppable. I lost a good half beer there! Just for that, rating goes down...

But once it settles down it looks fine, like a Belgian dark ale with a huge fist of a head, outrageous carbonation and the darkest color this side of Africa. Beautiful, thick lacing as well and great retention. That head lasts forever!

Smell: Lotsa sweetness, brown sugar, honeycomb and the customary dark fruit (raisin, prune juice).

Taste: Sweetness and more sweetness! Geez... if you don't like sweet beers, forget about this. It is like a barleywine dipped in simple syrup, then rolled on brown sugar and finished with honey. Those "citrusy hops" they mention in the label, including Simcoe, Centennial and Columbus? They're barely there, overwhelmed by the sweetness. Only at the very end do they come through, as a stingy clover-like feel.

Mouthfeel: Full body and medium flavor. Huge carbonation of course, a bit too much indeed. Otherwise well balanced and quite pleasurable to drink. Not dry at all, which I appreciate.

Overall: The carbonation issue is annoying, and the extreme sweetness in the taste is slightly off-putting. Not a bad beer at all, though- it drinks remarkably well for being 11%. (1,427 characters)

Poured into snifter. Bottled in 2010.

Appearance: It has a dark, reddish brown color with tremendous off-white head.

Smell: Kind of a funky smell. Sweet at the same time. Fruity. Too funky though.

Taste: Awful sweet taste that overwhelms my palette. Caramel apples, caramel plums, toffee. Too sweet.

Mouthfeel: Very thick. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Definitely not my favorite old ale. Much better ones out there. This way too sweet for me. (449 characters)

A: Deep dark copper color, intense off tan dense head that kept it through the entire glass, incredible
S: medium nose, roasted malt, caramel
T: deep dark roasted malt, sweeter but not cloying, slightly bitter finish - didn't taste pine/citrus as described
M: very thick in mouthfeel, not well-attenuated, definitely on the sweeter side
O: average, too sweet, almost like chocolate pudding in taste, needs considerable more bittering hops
