Big thanks to Beerlando for this one.
Pours a deeply murky brown/ruby color with a light tan head that rises well and retains ok. Reduces to a 1/4 inch film over the surface and leaves good lacing.
Nose is full of a fruity malt profile with some clear nuttiness towards the end of each sniff. Alcohol is apparent on the nose and almost a star anise like aroma is hinted at minimally.
Taste is very nice. A great roasty toasty malt profile with a very nice sugar sweet backbone. There is a good caramely and creamy spike in there as well. The fruitiness in the nose is barely pronounced at all, but there is a hoppiness in the flavor that i did not get in the nose as well. Not a huge hoppiness or anything, but there. The finish is not very bitter, but the aftertaste does have some belated lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel is solid. A very nice viscous creaminess. Carbonation is ideal. Fairly slick on the palate actually, almost oatmeal slick, but there is a dryness that arises in the aftertaste.
Drinkability is quite nice for the abv. The creamy mouthfeel really mingles well with the flavor and makes this one easy to drink. Alcohol heat is there, but minimal by 9% standards.
Overall this is a very nice brown ale. Certainly one of the better ones ive had in a long time. The Barrel Aged version of this beer is an excellent beer, but this one is no slouch either. I got a bottle of the BA bolita to age, and actually i should have got another one of these too. A very complex and interesting brown ale. Very tasty.
