Review from April 2011, Poured from an (undated) 750ml purchased January 2011:
A: Pours a deep mahogany with a swelling, cappuccino colored head... as the head takes up more than 50% of the glass, it's evident that something is amiss for a Brown Ale...
S: Extremely strong scent of bacterial infection, completely masking any other flavors that could possibly be lying underneath.
T: Yeah, it's infected alright. Undrinkable, even from the standpoint of imagining it as just a sour, sour beer. Stale, moldy peanuts wrapped in a vinegar-soaked piece of cardboard is all I can say.
M: My sink did not comment on the 24 ounces of this brew that was forced down it, so I have nothing.
O: Well, I had this beer before on tap at CCB and it was fantastic. A really bold, creamy, chocolatey brown ale is what I was in the mood for and instead I received nothing but disappointment in the form of a bottle filled with half an inch of yeasty sediment.
I can't give 1's across the board because I know this beer's actual potential. Hopefully CCB has done a little better with their quality control since the time I purchased this brew. I had heard stories of random infections in CCB brews but this beer confirmed it.
