Appearance: Arrives at the bar looking like a very fine stout; black color, big tan head and plenty of lacing

Smell: Eponymous aromatics - smells just like a Cafe Con Leche

Taste: Roasty coffee with lactose, up front, with hints of chocolate and tobacco developing in the middle; just a bit of bitterness in the profile before the sweeter flavors dominate the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A bit of a gimmick here, making the beer taste the way it does but oh so good

Review from notes, I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy this one. I love CCB, and this was one of the best they ever put out. Growler poured into a couple pint glasses.

The pour was spot on, dark brown, nearly black in color with a big head of tan that towered over the top of the glass, reaching back it coats the entire inside of the glass thoroughly and completely. Aroma reaks of sweet coffee, vanilla, almost caramel like notes. Warming brings forward vanilla now as well. Really just wonderfully done here. I take the first sip and I am blown away. Rich decadent vanilla notes as well as huge sweet coffee presence. Rich and very filling it coats the palate completely and really just is at a near perfect balance. Long finish is sweet, full of sugar and just a wonderful session stout.

Overall one of the best milk stouts ever made and it really goes to show how you can take a style that has been done to death and put a reat new spin on it. Cheers to them, this was outstanding.

First had: on tap at Cigar City, Tampa, FL

Dark black pour with a solid cap of dark tan head, nice retention and lacing. Aroma of fresh coffee beans, smooth, roasty dark malts. Nice bold coffee taste, semi-sweet chocolate, lactose sweetness, toned-down roasty bitterness. Simple and obvious, but delivered what it promised, nothing less, nothing more. Heavy-medium body, smooth, and quite drinkable...probably addictive if coffee beers are your thing. Not being a coffee drinker, I normally am not a fan if the coffee is too intense in the beer, but this was definitely not bad at all.

One of 6 samples at the tasting room 1/29/14

This beer is black, like oil but not as heavy and viscous though certainly thick, rich and robust in appearance. It's nitro creamy, the silky tan head leaving a broken sheet of lace almost all the way down the glass. It's a real beauty, with a balance between thick, rich and strong against soft and creamy; it looks like it works to me.
Café con leche to perfection; this beer really is like drinking coffee with milk in it. It's not like average, pretty good or good coffee, either. This smells and tastes like high-grade, premium stuff like I could barely get from kopi. Somehow this beer is brewed so that the ingredients used and how they're brewed give so much flavor, and the roast managed so well to at once serve to remind me this is beer while adding to the fresh coffee effect. This is fresh just-ground premium dark roast with a little milky sweetness and so much creamy flavor that I swear there must be half-and-half in it. It's beautiful, it's silky, it's roasty, it's a little nutty, it's just barely smoky, it's smooth as anything, and it's one of the most delicious stout of any kind I've ever had the pleasure of drinking.
The body is full but leans the direction of medium without losing anything. The roast adds a dryness that contrasts with the otherwise silky smoothness of the nitro. It's not a perfectly smooth flow on the tongue, but it's fantastic nonetheless.

Had on Tap at Cigar City.

A: Pours a very evil black hue. The head rises to sky scraper heights and is a very dark brown in color. The beer clings to the glass nicely and the head has excellent retention. Spotty lace is noted.

S: Quite possibly the boldest coffee stout I have ever smelled. To say the aroma is of fresh roasted espresso beans would be an understatement. Bold espresso with roasted malt. Light chocolate notes.

T: I love me some coffee beer and this one is coffee on crack. The espresso flavor is huge right from the start. Has the same jolt as when you eat chocolate covered coffee beans. To be honest this beer really reminds me of just that. Bold espresso with hints of chocolate. A hint of sweet, dry lactose sugar peeks thru in the end.

M: Fuller in body than most coffee stouts with a nice dry bitter finish.

D: Very, I love me some coffee stout and this is one of the best of the bunch. Can't wait for it's release.

A: very dark brown. Almost black in color. Barely any head, but what does form is a thin dark cream. Little retention. Appears flat.

S: yeah, smells like coffee. And there is a slight coffee sourness, perceptible, but not overwhelming.

T: strong taste of coffee. Espresso actually. Moderate sweetness and very light lactose quality. Dark , deep roasted malts. A bit of char. Coffee bitterness on the finish.

M: full bodied, chalky, moderated bitterness.

O: a nice beer. Certainly heavy on the coffee, which I imagine it should be.

This one shared courtesy of preismj- thanks Matt! Appearance is dark with minimal head. The nose is simply amazing with amazing creamy coffee notes among heavy notes of caramel and molasses. Smells like a decadent treat. Unfortunately, the taste doesn't live up to the nose. Bitter chocolate and coffee up front with an overall thin taste. The mouthfeel has a decent viscosity with mellow carbonation. Overall, this smells amazing, but something was lost in the flavor. Still a great beer.

Wow. So glad I found this. On draft at The Top in Gainesville. Deep dark brown/black with a small dark brown head. Smells like a morning espresso with hints of bittersweet roasted chocolate. Wow. Smooth as can be. Almost like drinking chocolate milk. Actually less coffe than expected from the smell. Some nuttiness that is almost like hazelnut. Very sweet and very rich, with a bitter coffee finish. Bitter chocolate lingers for a good while. Thick viscous mouthfeel, as expected. Get this if you can!

Reviewed from notes. Had out of a firkin at CCB tasting room. Poured into a snifter glass.

A: Black and opaque with a nice one-finger mocha head of very fine bubbles, and low visible carbonation (firkin).

S: Huge coffee, and sweet cream tobacco, sweet leather, and a bit of cacao.

T: Roasted coffee, creamy lactose sweet, a bit of very dark chocolate, tobacco, and maybe hints of dark fruit (figs/plums). A touch of hop bitterness at the end.

M: Low carbonation sensation, likely due at least in part to the serving type. This is smooth as hell, absolutely amazing mouthfeel for a coffee stout. Moderate alcohol presence.

O: Wow. This was a great beer. I think the firkin was an ideal way to drink this. I would be curious to try it on standard tap to compare. Although, as good as this was...let's be honest, I'd just like to drink more of it. Very recommended.
