Pours a nice copper color. Aroma is mostly spice; nutmeg & allspice. Aroma is slightly boozy. Nice mouthfeel, good body. Taste is a nice balance of spice, pumpkin, and malt. A little sweet at first but smooths out as the beer warms up.

Overall this is an excellent pumpkin ale. It is not a sickly sweet pumpkin pie ale. The spices, although prominent are not over powering. I highly recommend.

A - Pours a hazy orange-brown with almost two fingers of tan head. Head fades to a collar pretty quickly, but leaves some lacing.

S - Nice aroma. A bit of sweetness, but not too sweet. Smells of a bit of pie crust, with some cinnamon and other pumpkin spices coming through. Also some subtly sweet pumpkin note and a bit of brown sugar.

T - All of the notes of the smell are there, but with a nice subtlety. Tastes of a nicely spiced beer up front, with the pumpkin coming later. I like that this isn't overly sweet, or overly spiced. All the elements of a pumpkin pie, but in good balance with each other, and with the malt profile.

M - Medium mouthfeel. Has the mouthfeel of a spiced lager. A bit of creaminess.

O - A very nice pumpkin beer, one of the better examples I've had. Not too sweet, not overly spiced. Just a nicely balanced flavor profile that has the spice elements of a good pumpkin beer in combination with more of an earthy pumpkin profile.

This fall I had my first Good Gourd as my first beer for a tailgate; after most of the pumpkin hype season had died down. I poured it into a red wine glass (my best option) and immediately noticed that I liked the color and aroma much more than certain other pumpkin ales. My first sip, I was hooked. I bought up several more, two for this winter, and a few to age for next year. I picked the first one up for $13, and the next few for $14; and they were certainly worth the price IMHO.

Absolutely phenomenal. Very dark in color with a slight head that boils down to nothing. Smells of fall. No other way to explain it, tastes like a very dark ale with many flavors and finishes off with the sweetness of pumpkin pie. One of the best CCB has to offer.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this growler.

The beer pours an orange-amber color with white bubbles. There is not much, if any, real head on the beer.

The aroma is pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Very nice smelling.

The flavor is reminiscent of pumpkin pie. I get a lot of sweet pumpkin, as well as some allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and caramel malt.

Medium body with low carbonation. A very nice pumpkin ale.

One of the better Pumpkin beers being made today. I've had this on Nitro at the brewery and also from the bottle. Nitro gives it a bit better mouth-feel but overall, they both pack a lot of spices and pumpkin flavor without taking away from the beer. One of the only pumpkin brews that I see out annually.

Thanks dfclav!

A combination of orange, auburn, and copper with a very thin light, creamy off-white head. Not much lace or cling is left on the glass.

A nice Fall collection of aromas, especially as the beer warms: a bit of earth pumpkin, but not a ton, as well as a handful of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. An appropriate and pleasant aroma.

The flavor follows the aroma very closely, with the spices leading the way. My favorite part of this beer is the sweet and earthy vanilla character that lingers after the swallow.

Medium mouthfeel with ample carbonation.

A very nice, somewhat spice-forward, pumpkin ale with a tasty creamy vanilla character also.

A: Changing it up a bit, I poured this ale into my SA Perfect Pint. This brew pours a pretty pumpkin orange with a cream colored head.

S: The aroma is definitely amplified. There is a depth to the complexity of this brew that many others lack. Notes of pumpkin spice (as opposed to raw pumpkin, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a delicious tinge of nutmeg.

T: The flavor profile is equal as complex with pumpkin shining through. I love how all the spices in the nose come together on the pallet.

MF: Mouthfeel is medium and creamy.

Overall, this is a great pumpkin ale. Definitely top 5 for me, and one of the most noticeably complex pumpkins that I've had. On a side note, I noticed the bottle was a little better than on tap, and definitely better served a little warmer.

A-Pours amber in color. Head fades fast. Lace is decent.

S-Aroma is amazing, Cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg shows above all else.

T- Pumpkin spice, Cinnamon nutmeg and brown sugar. The pumkin is so "pumpkiney" (if thats not a word it is now). Very Sweet to me.

M- Medium . covers the mouth with flavor.

O-Beautiful beer. CCB has not made anything that i don't like. This is by far the best Pumpkin beer in the world. Amazing A+++

Pours an orange-amber with a off-white head that has decent retention.

Aroma: Pumpkin nose with malt taking a background role. Hints of spicing; certainly not overdone.

Promising aroma is not followed by good taste. There is a nice bit of pumpkin/squash flavor, but it is surrounded by a rather unpleasant earthy gourd flavor.

Medium body with moderate carbonation

I reviewed this a while back and am just getting back to some tasting notes.

This beer is a hazed medium-orange color and forms a fluffy white head just over a finger tall. There's some substance to this one, as the sturdy head can attest to as well as the good, patchy lacing left behind by a thick foam about half the size of the original head that does fade further, but slowly.
This pumpkin beer is spiced but balance, something that can be difficult to achieve. Spices are not as though someone dumped some bottles from the cupboard, they're much more thoughtful. They balance with nice light sweetness and fleshy aromas. Cigar City could do bigger, but this is a great smell.
The same could be said for the flavor though, interestingly (especially for C.C.), it comes off as being a bit more muted than it could be. That doesn't mean it's not very good, that just keeps it from fantastic.
The body is medium, and this brew is smooth and creamy coming off a crisp bite. It really flows and fills the mouth without being too heavy.
This is another of the better pumpkin beers out there.

Poured into my Surly goblet....
A - Pours a hazy amber brown with a small foamy head that reduces quickly to a thin cover and ring. Looks great.
S - Not overpowering but a pleasant aroma of pumpkin and spices.
T - Medium strong pumpkin flavor with a hint of spices.
M - Medium creamy mouth feel, flavor hangs around for a good long time.
O - The key to any great beer is balance and this beer has it. The pumpkin and the splices are well matched to the beer, nothing is overpowering. Delicious, the best pumpkin beer I've tasted in 2014.

on-tap @ star bar in denver

A remarkably good pumpkin beer - really great balance. Liquefied pumpkin pie, vanilla creme, yam, cinnamon, nutmeg and other autumnal spices, nice touch of warmth from the booze, pie crust. I was very impressed by this one - wish I had access

750ml bottle

A- Poured into a Cigar City tulip glass. Pours a deep orangish amber color with an off-white head.

S- The nose is classic pumpkin ale aroma with pumpkin and spices.

T- The taste is really good. Not as sweet as some pumpkin ales, this one is a little more dry. The spices come out up front with some warmth from the alcohol. There is also a mile level of bitterness in the finish from some hops.

M- The mouthfeel is between light and medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, Good Gourd is a really tasty pumpkin ale. I would put it in the upper tier of pumpkin beers. Recommended!

Poured from a 750 mL bottle to a Dogfish Head Snifter.

Color: Dark hazy orange.

Smell: Cinnamon, pumpkin, nutmeg, allspice. A lot of cinnamon.

Taste: Just like the smell cinnamon is the superior taste. Then pumpkin, nutmeg and allspice.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with a dry finish.

Overall: A very good pumpkin ale. I had the pleasure of drinking this with my wife's best friend. She enjoyed this ale a lot too. I am impressed with every Cigar City brew I try. Whatever it is they do there I hope they never stop! This is my second favorite pumpkin ale next to Dogfish Heads. Cheers!

750ml bottle with cool labelwork & has me excited with the beefed up abv! Damn I love big beers!

Blood orange red color in the glass plays to the theme. Fluffy off white head fills the glass out well, making for a good looking beverage. Suprise, suprise! Sweet pumpkin spices, cinnamon & nutmeg hit the nostrils. Expected this for an imperial pumpkin. Smells fucking good. Same on the palate but with a full body, neatly creamy in texture, but well carbonated.

Overall, this is my favorite pumpkin ale of the season. At $11.99 per bottle, its a bit price to get again. Well worth trying it once though - loved it.

750 mL bottle poured into a goblet.

Appearance - Slightly hazy deep amber body. Not as dark as other pumpkin ales. A nice healthy head also distinguishes it from other pumpkins. And finally, it's got lacing! It looks like a real beer.

Smell - A great balance of pumpkin and spices. It's not dominated by spices, but they complement the pumpkin nicely. Nutmeg especially, I think.

Taste - Good pumpkin flavor up front, but the spices are less involved. The pumpkin flavor seems to fade and come back in the end. Maybe even a bit of earthiness with it at the end and possibly some bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Thick, but not as creamy as I'd like. I imagine a perfect pumpkin ale like drinking a pumpkin pie and it comes close, but just not quite creamy enough. Are my standards too high?

Overall - The best pumpkin ale I've had to date, but not perfect. The smell is wonderful but the taste is not quite as good.

Pours a nice burnt orange with a thick off white head.
Great aroma, roasted pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove.
Flavor keeps up with the nose. A great balance between the pumpkin and spice. I get more clove in the taste balanced by brown sugar.

Picked this up on a brewery tour the day after it was bottled (8/16). One of the spiciest pumpkin beers I've tasted, tasted like a delicious, mildly boozy, pumpkin pie. Had it with dinner, but it was definitely more of a dessert or sipping beer as it is intensely pumpkin-pie like. Definitely wish I had picked up multiple bottles, highly recommend if you can get your hands on one.

A- hazy, orange in color. Pretty dark as you would expect pureed pumpkin to be.

S- smells of strong pumpkin, cinnamon, roasted nuts, and other winter spices I can't quite put my finger on

T- absolutely fantastic. pumpkin and spice through and through, but without being overly heavy for an imperial pumpkin ale. Truly the most reminiscent beer I have had to my grandmothers pumpkin pie

M- thick and coats your mouth, but not so much that you couldn't drink this on a warmer day

O- favorite pumpkin beer, and I have had many. Saw some people mixing it with Zhukov's the other night. interesting, but I love both just alone

On tap at the Blind Tiger 9/15

Pours a orangy brown color with a minimal egg-shell colored head that quickly disipates into a barely there cap. Typical for imperial pumpkins.

The aroma is of a solid bready malt. The pumpkin spices are light, with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice making their presence known. There is also an odd spice that I wasn't able to put my finger on.

While the aroma was light, the pumpkin spice flavor was big. Big nutmeg and clove presence with cinnamon and nutmeg. There seemed to be some vanilla as well. Again there was a sweet spice that I couldn't quite get. There was an earthy quality to the brew and it finished with a tea like bitterness.

The feel was light to moderate with prickly carbonation. Sweet upfront but finishes lightly bitter and dry.

A good pumpkin ale, not great but surely didn't disappoint.

The nose is like pumpkin bread with a malty pumpkin tone. The spices of nutmeg and clove are obvious in the aroma.

The flavor tends strongly to the creamy pumpkin sweetness, almost like the whipped cream on top of the pie was included. There is little to no spiciness, that I can tell and nothing in the way of malty pie crust, but mostly the pumpkin pie filling.

A- Orange brown, light brown head

S- Sweet pumpkin pie malts with pumpkin pie spices to boot

T- More malts, smooth pumpkin pie. I feel like I'm getting the crust tasted in there too with the malts. High abv warming and pumpkin is what is in the aftertaste

M- Creamy medium/heavy bodied.

D- Great pumpkin ale and will revisit when able!

Had this one during a Pumpkin tasting which included 23 pumpkin beers.

There were 5 judges and we voted on our top 5. Out of the 5 judges 4 of them had Good Gourd in the top 5.

Good Gourd was #1 for me.

Had the Pumkin taste you were seeking. Was not too heavy and had a vanilla creamy taste to it and it almost seemed like it was barell aged with a good amount of booz to it.

To me it was perfectly balanced with the spice and the pumpkin flavor.. not cloyingly sweet but just about...which I liked... and perfect carbonation and smooth sweet finish that leaves you wanting more.

If you like Pumpkin beers then definitely try it out. To me.. I have yet to taste s better pumpkin beer.
