A - Great looking pumpkin ale. Maple amber body. Yellowed-paper head has ok retention and nice lace.

S - Whoa. Outstanding nose. Fresh banana nut bread and carrot cake. Banana, walnuts, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar canned pumpkin, allspice, raisins.

T - Awesome flavor profile. This beer definitely lives up to the hype. Canned pumpkin, nutmeg, brown sugar, butterscotch, allspice, maple syrup, sweet molasses, cinnamon, graham cracker, vanilla. The only things missing are leaf piles and sweaters.

M - Thick, rich, smooth, and full bodied.

O - If you distilled fall, had your grandmother bake it into a pie, and then brewed a beer with it, this would be that beer.

was shocked to find this locally the other day. supposedly got the last bottle of a single case that the shop got. we've always gotten cigar city, but never saw good gourd anywhere.

a - opened the bottle and filled my ccb snifter. beer poured a thin pumpkiny orange with a bubbly oily head that bubbled away quick. in the glass, the beer was lush and rich and transparent.

s - as soon as i opened the beer an AMAZING aroma filled the air. upon closer inspection...just marvelous. picture pumpking but better. pumpkin, cinnamon, apples...autumn.

t - wow, tastes just as good as it smells. very potpouri. festive. literally tastes like autumn. pumpkin, subtle balanced sweetness.

m - very smooth and medium bodied. booze is invisible.

o - overall, i think i may have just tasted the best pumpkin beer i've ever tried. it really is phenomenal...but if you don't like pumpkin beers, don't expect to like this one. here's hoping i see it again soon.

This fall I had my first Good Gourd as my first beer for a tailgate; after most of the pumpkin hype season had died down. I poured it into a red wine glass (my best option) and immediately noticed that I liked the color and aroma much more than certain other pumpkin ales. My first sip, I was hooked. I bought up several more, two for this winter, and a few to age for next year. I picked the first one up for $13, and the next few for $14; and they were certainly worth the price IMHO.

L - Dark orange/copper bordering on amber. Two fingers of off-white/eggshell head.

S -- Spices for days. Nutmeg, cinnamon, clove. Pumpkin of course, but it doesn't dominate.

T - Much larger pumpkin presence on the taste. All the spices are here, but it is spicy like a top-shelf rum. Excellent vanilla or cream flavor with a big cinnamon finish.

M - Big and full mouthfeel. Makes full use of the 8.5%. Slight alcohol taste. Lots of carbonation moves everything along.

O - Fantastic pumpkin beer, one of the best (prolly the best) I've ever had. Complex and drinkable.

Pours nice and amber into the glass
Smell is not exciting but the taste more than makes up for this, the mouthfeel is sooo good! This beer has taken the place as my favorite pumpkin beer! This is coming from someone who gets Schlaflys Pumpkin beer on a regular basis.

One of the best pumpkin beers I have had. I did a taste test over thanksgiving with around 25 different pumpkin beers and this was one of the ones on the top.

Pours a nice copper color. Aroma is mostly spice; nutmeg & allspice. Aroma is slightly boozy. Nice mouthfeel, good body. Taste is a nice balance of spice, pumpkin, and malt. A little sweet at first but smooths out as the beer warms up.

Overall this is an excellent pumpkin ale. It is not a sickly sweet pumpkin pie ale. The spices, although prominent are not over powering. I highly recommend.

A- hazy, orange in color. Pretty dark as you would expect pureed pumpkin to be.

S- smells of strong pumpkin, cinnamon, roasted nuts, and other winter spices I can't quite put my finger on

T- absolutely fantastic. pumpkin and spice through and through, but without being overly heavy for an imperial pumpkin ale. Truly the most reminiscent beer I have had to my grandmothers pumpkin pie

M- thick and coats your mouth, but not so much that you couldn't drink this on a warmer day

O- favorite pumpkin beer, and I have had many. Saw some people mixing it with Zhukov's the other night. interesting, but I love both just alone

The beer comes in a deep amber orange color.

The aroma huge of sweet pumpkin, spices, cinnamon, tons of sweetness of a pumpkin crust, and some brown sugariness.

The flavor follows with this perfect melding of sweetness, pumpkin, a hint of spices, and then a creamy mouthfeel to back it up. There's almost this whip cream pumpkin flavor that combines with it that gives it a bigger body than it should have. What this beer does so well is that it's not pretending to be pumpkin pie, but really has that punch of juicy fruit real pumpkin in the front.

This really represents a perfect pumpkin pie in a beer. Pumking does a good job, but is a bit cloying on the sweetness. This has the perfect balance that really makes this the best pumpkin beer out there.

Poured from a 1 pint 9.4oz btl into a nucleated tulip/snifter.
Cloudy opaque orange/amber color with an off-white head that diminishes into a light almost non-existent head that remains edged at the glass.
The upfront nose is spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg with a strong pumpkin smell that provides an excellent backing. Quite inviting!
The taste is well balanced with a strong pumpkin flavor and cinnamon spice pronouncing itself sharply on the back half. Wonderfully full bodied and creamy like an imperial pumpkin should be.
--Overall this will be a repeat buy. So far the best release of 2011 for my palate. Full bodied, creamy, with spice and a REAL pumpkin flavor. Delicious...

Appearance: Pours orangish-brown and transparent. Relatively thin tan head. Hue is interesting, not sure if I'm projecting extra orange onto it because I know it's a pumpkin beer.

Smell: Have not smelled many beers like this before. Definitely can detect the pumpkin, smells like pumpkin pie with hints of spice.

Taste: Very, very good. The pumpkin is the first thing I notice, rich sweet and creamy, but there is a little bite from the alcohol. Balanced wonderfully. After a sip I again can detect the pumpkin on my breath.

Mouthfeel: Similar to the taste this is a very smooth and creamy beer with some nice but modest carbonation.

Overall: This is a fantastic pumpkin beer. I've had some that are too sweet without balance, or where the pumpkin is overpowered with other spices, but CCB did a great job balancing the flavors and the heavy ABV gives it some character. One of my favorite seasonals from CCB and hands down my favorite pumpkin beer.

A-murky dark orange with a nice cream colored head. good lacing.

S-pumpkin with a spicy and tangy aspect to it. the spicyness isn't the typical autumn spices though. it reminds me more of belgian witbier. smells really tasty and unique, though faint. actually there are some autumn spices too...i don't know...this is complex.

T-wow this is going to be talked about for years to come. this is great. comes in with a great taste of pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and sweet potato! its a great taste with strong flavors. it goes in to a slight bitterness then ends with a long lasting after-taste of pumpkin, brown sugar, and sweet potato. this is amazing.

M-creamy low carbonation with a semi-dry finish

O-as far as pumpkin ales go, i've only ever liked pumpkin and pumpking. i've now added good gourd. in fact, this puts punkin to shame. its such a complex and balanced blend of great flavors.

Picked up about 8 of these after my wife tried this at Cigar City and fell in love with it.

Served in a Disney Polynesian Resort shaped-glass.

A: Poured fairly clear, dark orange in color, and with a slight off-white head that didn't add up to much.

S: Not quite as marshmallowy as "Pumpking," but still quite dessert-like. I got some of the spices for sure, but it had a sweet potato-like quality that was to die for.

T: The best pumpkin ale I've ever tasted. Seriously, I got the pumpkin pie, of course, but it also had a bit of salt and pumpkin seeds to boot. Remarkable. The off-kilterness (eg. Zanzibar cloves and nutmeg) definitely paid off.

M: The prickle was perfect, the sugar content was there, but it was totally appropriate for Thanksgiving.

O: It lived up to the hype and then some.

Presentation: 750 mL bottle chilled and poured into my Kate the Great tulip glass. Huge thanks to cfrances33 for this bottle.

Appearance: Medium brown in color with a slight one finger head. Decent retention, but eventually turns into a minimal lacing.

Aroma: Really interesting spice note upfront. Cinnnamon, clove, allspice and nutmeg all stand out. Some pumpkin and molasses tones complement the spice. I think the allspice note really seperates this from other pumpkin beers.

Taste: Again, big pumpkin pie spices dominate. Tons of bright allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove all contribute. Manages to stay interesting and bright throughout. The spice tone is completely unique and intriguing. Brown sugar and molasses sweetness matches well with the pumpkin to create a really nice background. Really drinkable for the ABV.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied. Lower than average carbonation.A bit syrupy.

Overall, a really unique, interesting and complex take on the pumpkin beer style. The spice note is one of a kind and doesn't overwhelm the base beer. One of my new favorites of this style. Definitely want to try this again. Balanced, smooth and complex.

Enjoyed on draft at Cigar City

A: Pours a nice clear brillant punkin' orange hue with a nice tall creamy head. The retention is very good with spotty lace noted.

S: In the aroma department this one is hard to beat, it is neck and neck with Southern Tier Pumpking here. Huge real pumpkin aromas with a wonderful mix of spices. There is a real buttery crust element in here as well that I have never picked up in another beer. Even after the beer was gone from the glass the aroma still wafted from the empty glass. This one smells better than those $20 candles the wife brings home.

T: The flavors are wonderful as well. Real pumpkin, a perfect mix of pie spices, and oooh that gooey butter I detected. The pumpkin stands out without the spice overpowering. This one is a perfect mix between the pumpkin beers of DogFish Head and Southern Tier. I will quickly become a favorite of the pumpkin beer lovers.

M: Medium in body, smooth and creamy.

D: I tasted this one when it was first finished and the booze could really be detected. Since it has aged a bit, the alcohol flavors have died and the pumpkin, spice, and buttery goodness have come together to create one wonderful brew.

I used to think Pumking was the best of its kind. Boy was I ever wrong, especially with this '13 batch. Good Gourd is easily the best pumpkin beer and is now my new holy grail. The smell isn't powerful but the taste is. A little gem right here. I can't wait to stock up.

750mL bottle from Luekens (Oldsmar, FL). 11.99. Bottled 8/26/13. Served in a Cigar City snifter.

Pours a deep, clear orange ruby with a quarter finger pale head. The head dissipates quickly leaving little lace.

Smells of ripe pumpkin, clove, nutmeg and sweet dough. Rather inviting.

Taste follows the nose but sweeter with considerably more spice. Pumpkin pie, cinnamon rolls, clove, allspice, burnt caramel, nutmeg and a mild touch of alcohol. The spices are bold and forward without ever covering up the nice, authentic notes of gourd. Delcious.

Semi sticky medium full feel with mild carbonation. Slick spiced pumpkin pie finish.

I might have a new favorite pumpkin beer here. Rich, sweet, smooth and utterly drinkable- it's certainly not often that I go through a 750 so quickly and easily on my own. This is one definately worth seeking. I can't wait to try Almighty!

One of the better Pumpkin beers being made today. I've had this on Nitro at the brewery and also from the bottle. Nitro gives it a bit better mouth-feel but overall, they both pack a lot of spices and pumpkin flavor without taking away from the beer. One of the only pumpkin brews that I see out annually.

One of my favorite pumpkin style beers. I truly enjoy this Cigar City rendition of the harvest season style. Bursting with real pumpkin flavor and pumpkin spices including Ceylon cinnamon, Jamaican all-spice, Zanzibar cloves and nutmeg not overpowering with cinnamon like most of the October styles just enough to let you know it is in there,

Very good beer. I won't do the breakdown, because I tried one week ago. It was very complex, and not overdone. I loved this brew. Cigar City rarely disappoints.

2013 bottle poured into a white wine glass. Smells like fresh pumpkin pie. Good mouthfeel, full but not heavy. Plenty of spice but good balance with the pumpkin. Neither one dominates the other. This was good pumpkin pie in a glass. Perfect for thanksgiving dinner or special fall dinners. Probably not something I would drink on a random Tuesday night.

Finally.. thank you CCB.. for bottling this amazing brew.

Poured into my CCB snifter.. half finger of head disspates to thin white lace around inner glass.. dark amber orange color.. lacey

smells like real fresh pumpkin, sweet hints of cinnamon, clove and all spice.

medium body, rich creamy, well balanced carbonation

Rich creamy pumpkin, taste.. immediately destroys the palate, subtle cinnamon, nutmeg undertones with a slight alcohol twinge to indicate its presence.

This is the catalina wine mixer of Pumpkin beer this season!!

On tap at the brewery with JJ. What a cool spot.

A - Amber/Brown with an off white head.

S - Cinnamon, burnt sugar, toffee, and PUMPKIN.

T - Allspice, nutmeg, molasses, sugar, pumpkin, caramel, Damn this tasty. They have so many good beers on tap, Marshal Zhukov, Vanilla Brown Maduro, Jai Alai, and multiple other brewery only releases. I love pumpkin so tried this beer and I was not disappointed.

M - Smooth, Sweet but not overly so, well balances, light carbonation.

O - Fantastic pumpkin beer. Another hit from CC. Hardly taste the booze for the ABV. Another reason I love Cigar City. Beers like this make me wonder why there's not more love for pumpkin beers... but I suppose to each their own.

Pours a pretty brown amber with nice clarity. Thin finger of foam leaving very little lacing. The nose hits with nutmeg, a dry vegetal pumpkin quality, cinnamon candy and baking spices - it is very much like pumpkin pie, spices are prevalent with almost a creamy pie crust scent. The nose is what gets me - multilayered complex chocolate notes - this beer looks like Theobroma and drinks like what Theobroma wishes it could be. Straight pumpkin pie in the mouth, full of spices and rich pumpkin flavor that finishes with nice carbonation and a dry vegetal quality at the end. Almost a touch astrigent on the finish and not a huge fan of the vegetal quality it presents but this is by far and away the best pumpkin beer i have had.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a snifter. Enjoyed on Thanksgiving.

Appearance: Pours a medium brown with a reddish hue and leaves a finger of off-white head which slowly fades to a layer atop the beer.

Smell: Cinnamon, nutmeg, mild pumpkin. The spices are incredible and come through really well in the aroma. Mouth-watering.

Taste: Light pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, some malts. Decent amount of sweetness. Really tasty.

Mouth-feel: Nice medium body and medium carbonation. Fits the flavor profile very well. A bit sweet and sticky, but not too much.

Overall: I think this might be the perfect pumpkin beer (for me at least). Delicious spices, the right amount of "pumpkinness", right amount of sweet - just really delicious. This was a great beer to enjoy on Thanksgiving. See you again next year, Good Gourd.
