Bright copper color with a thin head with short retention and leaving a ring.
Nice aroma of pumpkin sweet, cloves, cinnamon, caramel and nutmeg.
Flavor with notes of cloves, pumpkin sweet, lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, some nuts and vanilla. Dry aftertaste with a lasting sweet spices note.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 8.5% is well disguised.
Likely the best pumpkin I had. It has a superior balance and it is more elegant than other counterparties with good spices complexity.

Poured a brown body with a more sweet pumpkin aroma with cinnamon although some spices do come out.
Beer is full bodied, smooth, a little bready like pie crust, mostly sweet pumpkin and cinnamon in the taste profile although there is balance from some peppery spices and nutmeg on backend that lead to crisp finish.
Overall, a well-balanced pumpkin ale that highlights both sweet and spicy aspects of style.

Copper with ruby tones and an off white head that fades to a small ring and doesn't leave much lacing, if any. A bit flat looking, but I experience this with the style. Caramel, graham crusty malt, gord meat, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and do I detect a hint of cream?! Starts off with a nice vegetal gord meat flavor that is wrapped in caramel and graham flavors. The spice weaves in early bringing a perfect level of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg spiciness. Lower carbonation and the body feels slightly thin. Overall it's a great pumpkin ale. It's top two for me next to Pumking.

22oz bomber. Pours deep amber orange. 1 finger of head. Dissipates quickly. Aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, sugar..Tastes like a good pumpkin pie. Less sweet than alewerks but still very good and smooth. Easy to drink. Same flavors in the mouth and on the way down. Very solid pumpkin beer. Perfect for football season and thanksgiving.

Appearance - The beer was a golden yellow color with a bubbly white head.

Smell - Unlike many pumpkin ales, the cinnamon does not viciously attack the sense of smell. Cinnamon and nutmeg are present, but the aroma is more noted for a generalized sweetness.

Taste - This is such a well balanced pumpkin ale. The cinnamon and nutmeg are balanced with an earthy pumpkin. Notes of smooth vanilla are also present. In the aftertaste, the cinnamon comes more to the front and lingers.

Mouthfeel - The vanilla gives the impression of a smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is modest.

Overall - I might have a new favorite pumpkin ale.

The nose is like pumpkin bread with a malty pumpkin tone. The spices of nutmeg and clove are obvious in the aroma.

The flavor tends strongly to the creamy pumpkin sweetness, almost like the whipped cream on top of the pie was included. There is little to no spiciness, that I can tell and nothing in the way of malty pie crust, but mostly the pumpkin pie filling.

Poured into my Surly goblet....
A - Pours a hazy amber brown with a small foamy head that reduces quickly to a thin cover and ring. Looks great.
S - Not overpowering but a pleasant aroma of pumpkin and spices.
T - Medium strong pumpkin flavor with a hint of spices.
M - Medium creamy mouth feel, flavor hangs around for a good long time.
O - The key to any great beer is balance and this beer has it. The pumpkin and the splices are well matched to the beer, nothing is overpowering. Delicious, the best pumpkin beer I've tasted in 2014.

Nitro tap, Snifter glass

A – Dark brown, mostly opaque but some ruby highlights where light passes through. Nice clarity. Firm, thick foam head, tan-white, an inch or so tall and it goes nowhere. Impressive nitro pour.

S – Just a slight hint of fall/pie spice. More of a sweet character from the use of actual pumpkin. Minor bitter hops on the nose.

T – Very strong harvest / fall / pumpkin flavor, melded well with a sweet malt backbone and perhaps some spicy yeast notes.

M – Creamy, foamy texture, very smooth from the effect of the nitro dispense. Mild sweetness, a touch of bitterness, all in harmony.

O – Of all the harvest/pumpkin beers, this is one of the best (if not THE best) I’ve had. The creaminess from the nitro puts it over the top.

Brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, some nuttiness. The aroma is lovely, however the flavor wasn't as well integrated as I had hoped. A little too overwhelmingly spicy, but still enjoyable.

Google it, everyone will say the same and so do I.

Buy two, if possible, drink one now and the drink one in a year or so when the hops have retired more-so. A whole different beer.

No bitterness or whim-like ingredients to see what happens. This was tested and approved unanimously over, and over and over and over again.

One of the better Pumpkin beers being made today. I've had this on Nitro at the brewery and also from the bottle. Nitro gives it a bit better mouth-feel but overall, they both pack a lot of spices and pumpkin flavor without taking away from the beer. One of the only pumpkin brews that I see out annually.

Pours a nice copper color. Aroma is mostly spice; nutmeg & allspice. Aroma is slightly boozy. Nice mouthfeel, good body. Taste is a nice balance of spice, pumpkin, and malt. A little sweet at first but smooths out as the beer warms up.

Overall this is an excellent pumpkin ale. It is not a sickly sweet pumpkin pie ale. The spices, although prominent are not over powering. I highly recommend.

The beer pours a clear dark amber/brown with a thin off-white head that fades quickly. The nose is spice forward, but not distinctly pumpkin pie-like, instead it has a slightly cinnamon and bubble gum aroma. The taste has a similar bubble gummy/plastic spice presence, which dominates the sweet malty base and leaves little room for other expected pumpkin beer flavors i.e. caramelized sugars, vegetal gourd, grain, and yeast. Drinking this beer leaves the palate saturated by a medium-heavy bodied, boozy, punishing spice bomb. It's reasonably carbonated and sweet. This is a distinct and different kind of pumpkin ale, but the dominating bubble gummy spice profile is off putting

Very good beer. I won't do the breakdown, because I tried one week ago. It was very complex, and not overdone. I loved this brew. Cigar City rarely disappoints.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Acquired in a trade with tranquilocigars, thanks man!

Pours a deep amber transparent body with a fair white 1 finger head that reduces quickly. No lacing, little retention. Nice color though.

Heavy spices on the nose, cinnamon and nutmeg, vanilla, butterscotch, holiday spices, and PUMPKIN! It's nice to smell pumpkin in a pumpkin beer.

On the tongue is sweet malt, caramel, cinnamon-sugar upfront. The follow through is super pumpkiny, earthy, squashy, and real tasting. Tastes like pumpkin pie. Superb, balanced, and flavorful without being overbearingly sweet or spicy. Medium body and carbonation. A nice sipper.

This may be my new favorite pumpkin beer. Not artificial tasting, nice pumpkin-spice balance, and super tasty. Seek.It.Out.

Thanks again go to Big Daddy Cam for sharing this festive ale during Columbus Day Weekend.

Pours a dark orange/amber color. An off-white/yellowish head retains as a patchy cap and ring.

Smells like nutmeg, brown sugar, bready caramel, alcohol, spice, pumpkin spice mixed drink.

Taste is pretty heavy on the pumpkin spice, though good it comes off a little harsher here. Cinnamon and nutmeg particularly stand out, sweet caramel, vanilla, some toasted bread.

Medium body with decent carbonation, some alcohol heat, spice-laden sipper.

The spice flavors are pretty nice but a little over the top for me. Not usually a fan of higher ABV pumpkin ales, but this is probably one of the better ones I remember.

22oz bottle into a snifter
2014 vintage

A: Pours a dark copper with reddish hues when held to light. Less than 1 fingers width of light khaki colored head, which dissipates down fairly quickly and leaves almost no lacing. 4

S: Lots of spice and a balancing sweetness. Tons of sweet malts, caramel. Some pumpkin, but its subtle. A good amount of cinnamon and some clove. Some booze. Very nice aroma. 4.25

T: Like the nose, theres lots of spice, although I cant exactly place which spice is most prominent. Behind that unique spice flavor, there is also cinnamon and clove. Pumpkin is more prevalent in the taste than the aroma. Some caramel malt. Quite unique, but I dont love it. 3.75

M/D: Full bodied, carbonation a bit heavier than I would like, ABV is well restrained but noticeable, drinkability is ok. 3.5

O: Its ok, a bit disappointing. I dont particularly gravitate towards pumpkin beers, and with that its not one of my favorite pumpkin beers. Dont think I would buy this one again. 3.75

Sorry Pumking, this is the true king of pumpkin ales. Smell is obviously of pumpkin, allspice and cinnamon. For 8.5%, I got little to no alcohol burn on the back. The quintessential beer to celebrate autumn. Delicious. Highly recommended brew from Cigar City.

2013 bottle poured into a white wine glass. Smells like fresh pumpkin pie. Good mouthfeel, full but not heavy. Plenty of spice but good balance with the pumpkin. Neither one dominates the other. This was good pumpkin pie in a glass. Perfect for thanksgiving dinner or special fall dinners. Probably not something I would drink on a random Tuesday night.

Pours a dark amber color but translucent when held up to light. Light but noticeable carbonation. Cloves, pumpkin and brandy on the nose. Taste is boozy, pumkin, allspice, cloves, cinnamon and ? candy corn in a perfect combination. Delicious.

Best pumpkin beer I've ever had. Nice spice notes yet still very smooth at the same time. Sweetness was spot on. Not too much or too little. Fabulous beer!

O-a well-made pumpkin beer with great flavor and not overly sweetened as many of this style are, probably my favorite of the style

750ml bottle share thanks to doppelbockulus
12/12/13 – Served in a Duvel tulip glass

A: Good Gourd pours a burnt sienna hue with some mild haziness to it. Definitely a deep caramel-orange color with a half finger of thick khaki whip over the top. Solid retention efforts with some soft dots and doodles of stick adhering to the glass.

S: Smells like pumpkin pie in a bottle!!! It is dead on spiced pumpkin fruit with some caramelized sugars. Exactly what I had hoped for. Has legitimate spice aromatics of cinnamon, clove, allspice, and nutmeg with a sort of persimmon cookie likeness. Amazing aroma overall really.

T: Tastes of pumpkin caramel spice. Like liquid pie filling with an expressive and well constructed spice flavor profile. Exotic almost with the pronounced cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and allspice combination. It is all there in good balance. Each delicately layered and not overbearing to the pumpkin fruit. Toasted grains, rich with a toffee sweetness. Again much like persimmon cookie or gingerbread to me. Hints of anise in there. The brew is mostly sweet but with just the right hit of hop bitterness at the end that acts as a counter balance. Mild earthy quality towards the finish and alcohol is completely masked. This beer is more so about the spices than the pumpkin really. Really great overall.

M: Very smooth and creamy mouth feel with a moderate body. Small amount of bitterness with a decent drying finish and relatively clean retreat.

D: Really well done and quite enjoyable. You get the pumpkin and the spice in great balance. I don’t have much experience with Pumpkin beers but this is what I imagine one should be like.

From 12/12/13 notes. Huge thanks to Nugganooch for sharing this one; I love pumpkin beers and tihs was a big Want of mine. 750ml bottle poured into my Cigar City tulip.

a - Pours a hazy reddish brown color with one inch of off white head and low carbonation evident. Lots of head retention and lacing on the glass.

s - Smells of pumpkin pie, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, toasted malts, bread, oats, cloves, gingerbread cookies, and sugar. Great nose, just like pumpkin pie.

t - Tastes of sweet pumpkin fillings, toasted malts, cinnamin, pumpkin, bread, oats, wheat, toasted malts, spice, nutmeg, cloves, and bready malts. Even better than the nose; I like it a lot.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Body is smooth and creamy, quite easy to drink. Doesn't feel 8.5% ABV.

o - Overall I liked this one a lot; while not my favorite pumpkin beer ever it is in the mix with the top ones out there for sure. Easy to drink and the taste was great, I think I like Schlafly's pumpkin ale the best, followed by Elysian The Great Pumpkin, this, Pumking, and Alewerks Pumpkin Ale all slightly under it. Well worth checking out if you like the style.

Pours a very hazy and very dark copper/burnt orange color that spears almost chestnut brown in the glass with dark orange edges and a two finger, off-white head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Sporadic streaks and spots of soapy lacing left behind.

Spicy, autumnal aroma with lots of sweet pumpkin along with tons of earthy, zesty spice. Smells like an aggressively spiced pumpkin pie puréed into a glass. Has a similar dessert-like quality as Pumking with more malt and complex spice profile and less sweetness. Hints of roasted pumpkin, pumpkin pie filling, nutmeg and vanilla along with clove, ginger, coriander, cinnamon, brown sugar and allspice. Sweet caramel malts underneath with hints of toffee, tobacco and leather. The spice profile is very musty, earthy and is a nice counter to the sweeter pumpkin pie characteristics. One of the better smelling pumpkin beers that I've had.

Full bodied for the style with a nice balance of pumpkin pie sweetness and earthy, zesty spice notes. Strong organic tasting pumpkin and pumpkin purée/pie filling up front with prominent nutmeg, vanilla, brown sugar and allspice countered by a more musty, rustic spice profile that has hints of peppery clove, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. There's a nice malt backbone giving off more sweetness with hints of caramel, toffee, toast and biscuit. Slight boozy sweetness in the finish but there is no heat at all. Drinks incredibly well for 8.5%. In addition to the complexity, there is incredible balance. The spice presence is really strong taming the pumpkin pie/dessert sweetness and there's just enough sweet malt and pumpkin character preventing it from feeling overwhelmingly spicy. I can see how this could be a bit too much for some but I think it's a great take on the style. One of the better examples of what a pumpkin beer can be.
