Hugh thanks to GatorBeerNerd for hooking this one up on a recent in person trade!
Thick and syrupy on the pour. Black in color, almost purple. The head of foam was one of the most amazing aspects of this beer. It displays a rich mocha brown color with a red tinge to it which when given a swirl in the glass is truly unique to look at. This rich, blood red color appears in the head of foam, I'm assuming comes from the pasilla chiles used during brewing. Just wonderful to look at.
Lots of peat on the nose, with a earthy cinnamon aroma behind it. Has a fresh green, fruity smell from the chiles and some spice. Dark chocolate, raisins and prunes round out the nose. As the beer warms I'm beginng to get more spice, cinnamon, vanilla and tons of chocolate.
Very soft carbonation. Creamy and velvety on the palate. Vanilla, cinnamon and a rich chocolate taste upfront. The peat doesn't show up as much in the taste as the nose. There's a rich underlying chocolate taste that carries throughout the beer, with a nice touch of sweetness. Like drinking a liquid chocolate bar. You pick up the heat from the chiles in the finish, with a slight lingering spice on the tongue. Somewhat chalky in the finish as well and plenty of dark fudge.
-thanks again Donnie, this was a great beer! The Odell Woodcut and Port Brewing Older Viscosity were fantastic also.
