A: Poured into a CC snifter, this one is as black as it gets with a surprisingly dark cocoa head.
S: Rich cocoa, roasted malt, cinnamon, and a little vanilla. After it warms up I get a little honey and anise. At times it smells like a fudge brownie.
T: Again, truckloads of rich dark chocolate. Quite a bit of sweetness, but it's nicely countered by huge roasted and slightly smoky flavors. The chocolate's complimented by vanilla and a light woodyness, I would assume from cinnamon. Pepper adds more flavor than heat, but the spice does start to build for me after the first 4 oz. There's also a distinctive earthyness to this beer. The best comparison I can make for the flavor of Hunahpu's is dense chocolate cake with xocolatl bar melted over the top. Intense.
M: Body is very thick with low to medium carbonation. Overall, it has a very full mouthfeel, but the carbonation isn't as dialed in as some of the best examples of the style, which are more velvety. This is good, but a little more syrupy.
Hunahpu's is a huge, roasted cocoa beast. Really a fantastic beer with many layers and a great option for comparing flavor profiles at various temperatures.
