The issue comes down to taste with this beer. Huna, DBH just doesnt matter. It takes like im drinking a cinnamon sugar milkshake with some chilies thrown in.

Shared after the massive let-down at Huna’s Day 2014 when one of the share guys overpaid for a bottle, which we poured into the commemorative tasting glasses. 2014 vintage. Opaque black body with a tan head that settles but leaves good lacing for such a high ABV brew. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, pepper, cinnamon, and dark malt. Taste is off-the-charts good - sweet chocolate, vanilla, and malt; bitter spice and coffee; subtle chili pepper and booze warmth. Full body, thick, creamy texture, soft but appropriate carbonation, warming boozy finish.

Decent burnt brown head with good carbonation. Good bite with a sweet sweet cinnamin taste. Subtle cocao notes as well. Great beer to share and enjoy with a friend.

Enjoyed on 01/17/15, before the Seahawks beat the Packers. Thanks to fellow BAer brentlepping for the share.

A. Black color, silky and thick. Minimal fine-bubble head that's slightly amber, retreats to a minimal rim. Moderate viscosity.

S. Coffee beans, coco, dark roasted malts, and hazelnuts combine for a complex nose. Strange minor notes of hoisin sauce, vanilla, and spicy peppers come through as it warms. A little boozy.

T. The taste follows the nose in a nice way. Roasted flavors of the espresso and malts hit first, then the peppers create a little spice as it opens. Not much heat, nice and subtle. A hoppy bitterness results from the coffee. I pick up on the cinnamon at the end.

M. My favorite part of this beer. Thick and silky, and very smooth. Highly viscous, and full body.

O. Obviously this beer had huge expectations and it lived up to the hype. Cigar City hit a home run with this beast and it's easy to say this is a very well crafted beer. I typically prefer bourbon barrel aged stouts, but his is just fine without being aged in barrel. Now I wonder what a barrel would do to this and feel maybe this is better without.

The nose is fresh chocolate, dark chocolate, with a spiciness from the chilis. The vanilla is present but subtle. the taste is full of chocolate, definitely a dessert beer. There is a slight fruit but fresh cocoa and a subtle spice.

Side-by-side with Bomb! and Abraxas, this is the clear winner. Taste of cinnamon becomes more apparent as the beer warms up and it adds the perfect amount of spice. Heat from the chilis does not linger and is pleasant, not overpowering. All in all it is a world class brew and cannot wait to open my second bottle on a special occasion. You will not be disappointed if you enjoy this style of brew. Even if you are not a fan of spiced stouts you will probably enjoy this. Chocolate hints, cinnamon perfection and a mouthfeel that balances on perfect.

2012 brewing, excellent beer! smooth, silky mouth feel. Coco nips shine thru. The chilies are subtle, this may have been from the aging. Overall this is an amazing brew, worth seeking out.

Bottom Line: Amazing beer!

Bottle from March, 2014. Look: Appearance is black with a small tan head. Smell: There is a lot going on here on the nose. I get a lot of cinnamon, some vanilla and peppers. Taste: This is a flavor explosion of the best kind. In addition to the cinnamon and vanilla the spiciness of the peppers really stands out. Feel: Carbonation is fairly normal for having almost a year of age. Overall: This is one of the best stouts I've ever had. It's incredibly balanced and everything an Imperial Stout should be. Well done, Tampa!

750ML bottle, poured into a snifter

I was very excited to try this beer, and courtesy of a fellow beer nerd and friend who moved to Florida in the last year, I was finally able to acquire this mythical beer. It pours jet black and has very little head, a little bit formed at the tail end of the pour but that was it. The smell is moderately sweet and smells like a blend of cinnamon, vanilla, & a hint of chilies. NOW... the most important part: the taste. This beer is extremely well balanced, especially for a flavored stout. At first you get a sweet taste that incorporates the chilies and cinnamon, which transitions into a slightly bitter cocoa taste before finishing with a smooth vanilla. The mouthfeel can be described in one word: smooth. For as complex as this beer is, it is incredibly smooth. I recommend anyone without direct access to this beer to do everything you can do to arrange a trade, It's worth about 95% of the insane amount of hype it gets, which is quite an accomplishment.

A-a nice hard pour reveals a 1 finger rocky dark brown head. Looks nice. Starts dissipating quickly to a wispy head and then to nothing.

S- Lots of Chocolate and some vanilla and rum notes. As for the chilis, I can pick up very slight dried ancho aromas that blend with the chocolate. Cinnamon starts presenting itself as the beer warms up, and adds a nice spice note.

T- Follows the nose. Chocolate is up front and incredible. Then in the middle of the palate the vanilla and rum notes present themselves. As the beer warms the cinnamon kind of starts presenting itself and it is really complementary to all of the other ingredients. Chili takes a while to be able to notice. But I am starting to get some chili head as the beer reaches room temp. the wonderful thing about this beer is that it keeps changing quite a bit and revealing new surprises as it warms.

M- Not as thick as a beer as I expected. Carbonation is quite low but perfect. Not as heavy a beer as I had expected. Dangerously smooth.

O- Best beer I have ever had. I expected something similar to Prairie Bomb. It is better than Bomb, yet a little lighter. This beer is like chocolate in a glass. Incredible.

This was an all around amazing beer. Great nose and mouthfeel, booze, chocolate and cinnamon complimented by slight heat. All mix to a well balanced, heavy stout with intense flavor.

This pours with tremendous viscosity for not being barrel aged, its inky black with a dense brown foam.

The nose seems to be mostly chili peppers, habenero or Serrano perhaps, with a bit of cinnamon powder and a phenolic duct tape. (It may just be this bottle)

The flavor is predominantly cinnamon spice at first with an accompaniment of raw chili peppers. The peppers provide heat the rest of the way but are almost indistinguishable through the end. The mid palate to finish is chocolatey and malty. Delicious.

The feel is downright chewy and thick. Just fantastic.

As of 1/3/15 -
Had a vertical consisting of '12, '13 and '14 (Batch1.)

All were world class but there was a noticeable fall-off in the cinnamon / chilies as it ages - as expected. Conversely, the mouth feel improved. Cannot wait to try the 2014 Batch 2 and the 2015 offerings.

This stout looked deep, dark, and sultry. The smell was rich with bourbon, malt, cinnamon, and lactose. This is the best bourbon, chili, and spice stout I have had in 2014. Raisins and dark fruit rule in this one. The taste profile expands as the stout warms. The feel was perfect. Nice thickness, with hardly any carb. This stout is the perfect balance of Cacao Nibs, Madagascar Vanilla Beans, Ancho Chilis, Pasilla Chilis and Cinnamon.

Look-pours a muddy brown with a half finger of tan head, fades quickly but leaves nice lacing.
Smell-molasses, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla beans, kick of chili
Taste- Sweet, syrupy malt upfront, the richness of the malt is cut by a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and chili, vanilla providing smoothness around the edges. abv is completely absent. the complimentary flavors provide a very complex yet balanced tasting experience.
Feel- motor oil thick, very creamy and very light carbonation
overall-very exciting and complex yet very balanced. an excellent experience.

This beer lived up the hype. A friend gave me a glass (I've never had Huna before and he didn't show me the bottle or tell me what it was until I was half way through and completely enjoying myself in the mystery.) Appearance was spot on, dark brown to almost black. The smell was full of bourbon with hints of spices. The taste follows the smell with even more spices up front. This became a smooth and chocolaty flavor as it went down. Mouth feel was on point with just enough carb to notice. Enjoyed every drop. One of my favorite beers to date. UDPATE: Enjoyed a vertical from 2012-2014 and much of the nose and spice faded as it was aged longer. I enjoyed it better around 9 months old.

2011 vintage, thank you very much Greg!

Pours a completely black, slightly viscous color, with a small, dark brown head.

Has rich aromas of chocolate, earthy, scorched malts, notes of molasses and a gentle coffee infusion, well balanced by unsweetened bakers chocolate.

Tastes of smooth, creamy chocolate, joined by toffeeish malts, evoking a mousse au chocolate impression, joined by a sweeter, calming, slightly wooden vanilla note. Has a hot peak, at first introduced by a decent hop bitterness, carried by a generous malt earthiness, transforming into a spicy, hot chili burn. This spiciness numbes the palate for a short glance, then revealing an interplay between a slick coffee bitterness and mellow, sweet chocolate. Finishes with a semi-dry aspect and cinnamon to it, including the taste of whole, burned coffee beans, dipped into hot chocolate. Burning, hot Jalapeno and cinnamon are sticking on the outside of my teeth, accompanied by a subtle sweetness. The balance of this brew is outstanding, regarding its complexity. There are no moments in which any off-flavors get revealed, or in which the beer turns into something odd, but its full body is defined by a great smoothness and diversified taste.

Huna '14

Re rate: spices are even more pronounced, hotter, with a burning, spicy peak to then, then I initially remembered them to be. Cinnamon and mousse au chocolate blend perfectly into the spices, with a wooden vanilla note on top, exhibiting a louscious, well suiting sweetness. Hops provide a slightly bitter, still hot, flavor, adding an appealing variety to the finish, among bready, slightly wooden malts.

Dark thick black pour. Not much head at all. Chilli pepper aroma with lots of cocoa smell. Slight pepper bite with a sweet toffee taste. Sticky thick mouthfeel. Hints of molasses, chocolate, fig. Delicious.

2014 bottle enjoyed out of a snifter and a teku

A: Pours an incredibly thick and viscous pitch black. It's a cliche, but motor oil is the appropriate analogy. Serious legs on this one, and a thick film coats the glass. Khaki/mocha head that dissipates quickly into the darkness. Might be the darkest beer I've ever seen.

S: Bright notes of plums, cherries, and dark fruit; pleasant hints of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee; and lots of cinnamon. There's also a thick and heavy-ish aroma of booze, almost like rum. All of the foregoing might suggest an off-kilter, out-of-whack nose, but for all the intense aromas, the nose is incredibly restrained, well-balanced, and even mild. Just masterful stuff here.

T: The initial flavor is of creamy, slightly bitter coffee and chocolate, followed by dark fruits, thick vanilla, and a blast of cinnamon. Aftertaste is bitter coffee, cinnamon powder, and dark chocolate. Light and vegetal chili presence throughout. Final kick is a bit of heat down in my stomach. So many flavors working seamlessly together here. Delicious.

M: Rich, viscous, and light, and not thick, syrupy, or overwhelming. The beer is barely carbonated and almost flat, which works well for all the flavor this beer is packing.

O: Outstanding beer on every level. The aromas are so rich and pleasing, with each flavor playing off and complementing the others. The flavors are so decadent, so bold, yet so balanced and complementary. Who says you need a barrel to rule the world?

This is probably the most complexed flavored Imperial Stout in the game, the only disregard is the aftertaste, it bitters out. Find one if its the last thing you do in Florida.

It is almost a blessing and a curse to be rated so well, you expect the impossible, but settle for just mortal greatness. After trying you understand that this favorite did, in fact, cover its spread.

A: Pours pitch black with a thin caramel colored head.

S: Tons of cinnamon and roasted chile with a thick dark chocolate backbone. Smells amazing.

T: A velvety layer of dark chocolate upfront and then a smoky layer of roasted chiles. Finishes roasty with cinnamon and oak. So glad I finally got my hands on this. It was amazing.
