Had this from a can poured into your standard draft pint.

A: creamy white 3/4 inch head on top of a cola like brown in color

S: smokey, oatmeal with tangy hops in the nose, with some sugar like malt, very nice.

T: sweet oatmeal malt, with a nice mild hop bite (25 IBU) and some hints of oak and smoked barrel flavors.

M: creamy but not heavy, smooth, but quits easy on you

d: easy to drink, while @ 5.5% ABV its on the higher end of ABV's for the style.

This is a very dark brown beer that pours a large tan head of compact bubble. The head settles to about half a finger of foam with a long retention and it leaves some lacing on the glass.

A dark fruity aroma of figs is very strong at first that quickly goes away and progresses to the primary aromas of toffee and coffee notes with mild bit of chocolate as well. There is a bit of phenolic aroma that lingers in the background that is a pleasant mix of pepper and tabacco notes.

There is a moderate hop bitterness with a mild malt sweetness that combine in a balanced finish. Flavors of coffee, roasted grains and toffee are prominent. There is a a mild tabacco flavor and very mild pepper note in there along with a slight fruitiness.

It has a medium body with moderately light carbonation and little slickness on the the palate.

This is a unusual beer with lots of flavor and complexity. I can't think of a better beer to enjoy nice cigar because the flavors would compliment each other so well.

Poured from a 32oz CCB growler. Thanks again to Mike 2.

Mahogany color, about as dark brown as it can get away with, and a creamy, light brown head.

The nose has a little roasted nuttiness and mocha. It has kind of a rocky road vibe. Very nice. Rich.

The taste is of nutty dark chocolate, almond, subtle roast, just enough to be a nuance and not the main event. As it warms caramel and earthy hops interact. The finish isn't sweet, but has sort of a nutty mocha cheesecake fade. It's hearty, rich, and probably the most satisying brown ale I've had in my four years or so of beer exploration. Well done. A brown ale to drink or contemplate. Would try it again in a heartbeat.

12 oz. botle poured into a 3 Floyds tulip shaped pint glass

It pours a cola colored brown with a 2 fingered bubbly tan head. Retention is medium with no lacing and a small layer of bubbles after everything settles down.

A medium roast of coffee is present in the nose, some back end sweetness. The nose is very inviting but the roast level is boarding on over the top for a brown ale.

The taste follows through with the coffee but not with as force. I'm getting just a little bit of oxidized malt character too which knocks it down a notch. A touch of bitterness balances the malt perfectly. A really nice brown ale.

Mouthfeel is medium with some slickness from the oats. Carbonation is medium low. Drinkability is decent but the fullness prevents it from being higher. Overall a great coffee forward brown ale.

In a Cigar City snifter the beer was a dark brown color with some red highlights. It had a thin tan head.
Caramel/roasted malt aroma. Earthy, a bit reminiscent of tobacco.
Nice taste. Caramel, a bit of milk chocolate, that earthy tobacco hint. Late herbal hops.
A nice rich beer.
Very drinkable.

Goodness, after enjoying this beer for over a year, I'm finally reviewing it. Sipping from the can at the moment; however, I know this beer has a fantastic hazy brown color. It smells heavily of toffee and chocolate , with a good amount of caramel and coffee. The taste is mainly the toffee, closely followed by coffee and then the roasted malts. What really makes this beer for me is the mouthfeel. Superbly creamy. I can't recall if they actually employ oats in the brewing process, but it certainly feels like it. Maduro coats the tongue and mouth, and I love that about it. No homo.

Many thanks to mntlover for this gem of a bottle. Pours a clear brown body with a large beige head. Good retention with some patchy lacing.

Aroma opens with a surprising assault of minty and pine hops. Nutty chocolate, caramel, and oatmeal quickly climb aboard to remind me this is an American brown ale.

Mouthfeel has the trademark silkiness of oatmeal, with a medium body and carbonation.

Taste has leafy and minty hops which play off malty notes of caramel and chocolate in an entertaining ballet. A pleasant nutty malt character provides the stage. Finishes clean and even.

One of the best brown ales I've ever sampled. Very complex and playful on the senses.

Growler from Decicco's in Ardsley, NY. Pours quite dark brown, cant see through it, medium mocha head, goes to a tiny bubble film , collar and ample larger bits of lace. Complex nose featuring some smoke, chocolate, and roasted malts. Full flavor brown, flavors mimic the nose, nice and roasty, with plenty of chocolate and nutty goodness. Super smooth on the tongue. High quality brown, fresh tasting and well worth trying. More quality brew from CCB, keep em' coming to the NY area!

Appearance: 1 inch head, leather brown in color, cloudy, moderate carbonation

Smell: toasted malt, fruit, oat, and nut

Taste: toasted malt, oat, leather, and tobacco

Mouthfeel: dry, semi-sweet, moderate-light carbonation, medium bodied

Drinkability: One of the most leathery and earthy brews I have had in some time. Different from others I have had in this style. I could do two or three max. A good, not excellent beer that makes me want to try more from this brewery.
