Formerly Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale

Maduro is a Northern English-style Brown Ale with some American affectations. Higher in alcohol than the common English Brown Ale, the beer features flaked oats in the malt bill which imparts a silky body and works to mesh its roasted, toasted and chocolate components together. The end result is a remarkably full-flavored yet approachable Brown Ale that pairs well with mild to medium cigars.

Dark brown with thick, beige head and some lace. Aroma is roasted malt and molasses. Taste is slightly sweet, malty and the finish is creamy smooth. A solid brown ale, very drinkable.

Look:
Pours a light shade of opaque, mahogany brown with a two finger, rocky head of khaki colored foam. Excellent head retention and lacing. A very pretty looking brown ale.

Aroma:
Brown sugar, oatmeal, frosted breakfast cereal. A touch of chocolate cake batter and raisins.

Taste:
Light flavor of dry cocoa powder and sweet rolls upfront. Goes chocolaty briefly before transitioning into hearty flavors of raisin bran muffin with hints of candied plums in the background. Finish is dry with very gentle peppery notes of tobacco and light roast coffee.

Feel:
Medium density with low carbonation. Very drinkable and sessionable. Thirst quenching, but not watery or thin. Rich in flavor but light enough in body so as to not be too taxing or overbearing on the palate, even after multiple servings.

Overall:
An excellent English style brown ale. Great presentation of flavors and mouthfeel. In my opinion, brown ales should more often than not be sessionable, but rich in flavor. This strikes that perfect balance quite well, walking a fine line between flavor and drinkability. Enjoyable and thirst quenching, not much more you could ask for without going into porter or stout territory. This is not the type of beer to blow your hair back or knock your socks off with wild, unexpected and never before experienced flavors, but it's beauty lies in it's simplicity, elegance and sessionability. A reasonably priced and accessible beer you could throw back and drink without thinking too much about it while still experiencing great flavor. A working man's beer for sure.

A very flavorful brown ale. Heavy coffee flavors with a very nice toffee and chocolate on the finish. A very nice sipping beer for a cool fall evening on the porch.

Madura Brown Ale from Cigar City. Growler purchased in September, 2023. Rare to find a brown ale these days and this is a good beer. Nice roasted malt accent with some extra liveliness in initial mouthful. A downside is a rough aftertaste (not bitterness) that lingers. I found that mixing the Maduro with an good lager transforms the aftertaste into a nice experience.

A very drinkable brown ale. Wonderful aroma and flavor. No alcohol notes at all, which I love to see with dark beers. Just smooth and flavorful. Body is a little thin, my only complaint.

Easiest drinking brown ale I've come across.

What can I say? It's about 4× better than a Newcastle Brown Ale. But I haven't had one of those in a while.... nice slurpy head (no homo) and a nice "brown" taste and look.
